[ Oh, look. The Welcome Center. A severe-looking woman peruses the pamphlets while some other random young man helps her. ]

If you expect that I will willingly use-- [ The device broadcasts her surroundings upside-down now, as Minerva holds it before her, rather gingerly between two fingers. ] this, you'll find yourself sorely mistaken. It's-- it' ( Read more... )

[ Oh, someone who sounds both more polite and more knowledgeable. As put off by this new adventure as she is, Minerva finds it within her to curb a little of the irritation from her voice. ]

And...its purpose?

I see. And if I refuse to use it?

[ McCoy's only been here for two days, but he keeps returning to the Welcome Center. Maybe it's because he hasn't found a roommate or a pet to keep the damn ticking away, or maybe it's because he's just a bit lost without the hustle and bustle of the Enterprise around. Either way, there's an upset woman, and he's got his Southern manners. ]

I'd definitely agree with 'crude'.

[ Minerva's instincts are set to defensive at the moment, but suddenly there's someone agreeing with her, and while it seems this new place is overrun with American Muggles, she can't be all that put out -- they've been rather kind so far. ]

Honestly, if a person can't simply send a letter or talk to me face-to-face, I see no point in entertaining their communications! [ Her manners are a little lost at the moment: Minerva's temper sometimes gets the best of her! ]

[ He may be both American and a Muggle, but he's also from far further in the future than most denizens of the city. He's just as out of his element. ]

It's not bad for short conversations, a quick question that just needs a quick answer, but I agree. [ Not with the letter part so much, but he does prefer speaking to people face-to-face. Maybe it's because he's a doctor. ] Looks like a lot of people around here are used to 'em, though.

Far be it from me to tell all of them whether or not to use it. And by the same virtue, I don't suppose they will honestly attempt to influence my feelings on the matter.

[ Oh, right. She doesn't know you yet, so she'll offer a hand in greeting -- that's how this works, right? ]

Minerva McGonagall -- have you been here some time, then?

[NO... WAY. It isn't is it? Blimey, I lot of people have been showing up from home lately, but McGonagall??]

Professor?

I arrived very early this morning. And that is not precisely how I would choose to describe the situation, actually.

[There's a flash of red hair and wide green eyes along with a very shocked expression.]

Professor.

[ Minerva has no words, not anything that doesn't seem to crush her chest and push her backwards into a chair. There is only so much one woman can take; she has lost many people in her lifetime, but aside from portraits and memories, they don't generally return to chat. Only a whisper finds its way up to escape her lips: ]

Lily Potter?

[Minerva looks the same to Lily as she always has really but that expression along with the whispered name clues Lily onto the fact that McGonagall is from after her death. Lily reaches out to take the professor's hand in hers.]

It's me. This place does that. It's okay though. You're safe and you're not dead.

[She figures those are the most important things to get out of the way.]

I wouldn't worry. Unless you were planning were planning on shoving it up your fanny, or something, it really isn't all that invasive.

Some people say it turns on by itself, but I reckon that's just them messing up with it.

...Excuse me?

I'm just saying. Invasive isn't really the word for it. Or crude, come to think of it.

After a response like that I'm very inclined to disagree with you. And inquire as to the whereabouts of some sort of guardian.
