Severus/Remus???

Comment fic that's barely worthy of a title.

Title: Truth
Author: AnotherFnGrl
Rating: PG?
Summary: Five times Snape lied to Remus and was believed, and one time he told the truth and wasn't.

The lies:

1. "I love you."
Severus couldn't believe it when he heard Lily had kissed James Potter for a dare in the Owlery. When the other third of their little study group- the third that hadn't blown him off for a Gryffindor jock with an overblown ego- showed up, he couldn't help himself. Lily might not want him, but Remus did. Their out of the way little corner of the library was never disturbed, so he took advantage of the privacy and pressed his lips to the smaller boy's, enjoying his blissful reaction. Afterwards, he made the declaration he'd wanted to make for so long, but to the wrong friend.

2. "It's fine. I'm fine. Don't worry about it."
Sometimes Severus feels like he spends all of his time either being tormented by his boyfriend's friends or reassuring said boyfriend that he isn't hurt/angry/upset about the attacks. Nothing could be further from the truth, but Severus knows better than to ask Remus to pick between him and the Marauders. He doesn't fancy being left alone.

3. "I have to study for Potions."
Snape thanks Merlin that Remus isn't in Advanced Potions with him, when Lucius begins training him to receive the Mark. He just pretends he's struggling in the class, and any incidental injuries can be explained by exploding cauldrons and the like. Remus wouldn't understand- has no idea what it's like to want to belong so desperately you'll do anything.

4. "It's just a little burn."
When Severus returns for sixth year with the Mark, he wraps it in gauze before going to see Remus. His boyfriend places gentle lips over the bandage, kissing it affectionately, and it's so profoundly wrong it makes Severus sick. He's been having second thoughts since the tattoo was seared into his arm, and he wonders, for the first time, if Remus really could "kiss it all better". It's too late though- he's made his choice, and he'll have to live with it.

5. "You monster!"
He'd just wanted to know. He'd suspected his boyfriend was cheating on him with Black, and he'd been desperate to find their little love nest, to expose them and hurt Remus the way the other boy was hurting him. Instead, he stumbled into a werewolf's den. He knew instantly it was Remus- the wolf's gold eyes held something close to terror as it lunged at him, and Severus knows that, if the wolf hadn't veered to the side at the last minute, he would have been a goner. Screw what the books say, Remus was able to overcome the wolf's instincts to save him. His boyfriend is in there somewhere, even the one night a month he doesn't get to inhabit his own body. But the words have already been spoken, in a rush of fear and betrayal, and Remus clearly never intends to speak to him again.

And the truth:

1. "I love you."
They're older now- Severus is the bane of Hogwarts and Remus is the quiet new professor, going grey around the edges but still beautiful in a way Snape can't quite describe. When he goes to his old boyfriend's quarters after the welcome feast, he tries to explain, considers and disregards a thousand arguments for why he deserves another chance and in the end, stands before Remus with nothing but the simple, honest truth. The way he feels, the way
he suspects he's always felt. It isn't enough.
