He doesn't-- remember--
He walked out of the bar, out of Milliways; away from the end of the universe where stars went nova outside and ghosts haunted you inside. He walked out of that door, not sure where to -- heaven? hell (more likely)? the hatch still blowing up? -- but knowing he had to get away.
He walked out in jeans, a t-shirt and boots.
Then something ... happened.
"I woke up in the jungle like this."
"So ... like ... the hatch ... blew off your underwear."
Fuckin' island.
So he walks with Hurley back to the beach, trying to piece it all together in his mind. The younger man's inane rambling actually helps, a little; gives him another perspective with which to look at things.
Well ... help is probably a strong word.
"So what did happen?"
"Well, the failsafe key must have detonated the electromagnetic anomaly. Made the hatch implode."
"You didn't implode."
"...no."
No, he didn't. In fact, he feels pretty damn good, physically. Why? He remembers an explosion ... doesn't he? He does -- there was an explosion (implosion), there was the bar, there was Jack fixing him up and then there was beer.
Oh, yes. Beer.
But then what? How did he get to the jungle?
He doesn't know.
"Don't worry. Locke's going to go after [Kate, Jack and Sawyer]. He said so in his speech."
"What speech? All he said was he was going to save Eko and ... kill bears."
'What speech'? But there was a speech, he remembers it. He remembers
(gonna find our friends)
Locke standing on the beach
(don't know how yet)
talking to a group
(bring them home)
of the survivors, right? He remembers. He remembers--
--but it hasn't happened yet.
"...right. Right, of course. I'm sorry, I'm just ... a bit shook up."
He doesn't listen to the speech the second (first) time round.
