I've been thinking about Near. I have to say I hate it when people characterize Near as some kind of emotionally vacant robot to the point of being inhuman. I don't see Near this way. But is this canon? I mean, am I just projecting some fangirl desire for Near to be a woefully repressed person, who's cold on the outside but warm and cuddly on

I find that interesting. I also don't like how people characterize Near as just a toy robot - no matter how well of a fanfiction that turns out to be - so I've always wondered how he, ya know, deals with things. I can see someone confessing their love to L and have L turn them down or confessing to Near and Near either refusing or not doing anything. It's hard to describe Near. I've read all the manga and it's very much how he is in the anime (I love how the anime doesn't branch off into another storyline than the manga *cough FMA cough*)

Honestly speaking, I have no idea how to answer this.

Sigh, I know what you mean. It's easy to eff up when writing Near because of the nature of his personality. He either falls flat because he has no human emotion whatsoever or is just grossly ooc because the author gives him too much passion. The author has a fine line to walk.

No, Near is not an emotionless robot as most people portray him- freaking me out. Near is human, he has emotions, even though he's in total control of them, this doesn't mean he doesn't have them.
He's proud, and childish- never wants to lose, he's such a sneaky bastard sometimes, and canonly speaking, he's somehow fond of Mello, and he couldn't be all of these things if he was an emotionless corpse.
Uh, I say he's a sneaky bastard but I love him to tiny pieces, don't get me wrong ^^
