His emphasis on timing and distance holds true for any martial art, armed or unarmed. It is a fighting style, a soldier's art, not a sport. Attacks are designed to incapacitate or kill, not score or wound but that is secondary to defense. Footwork flows from what your body wants to do. The system itself seems quite simple, sophistication growing from subtlety and judgement.

Silver's stuff is _nice_. Efficient and effective - two traits which I find aesthetically pleasing. It seems immediately accessible as well. I have seen some arts taught where what you first learn is almost useless until some time later where it starts to combine with other basics into functional defences or attacks. Sunday afternoons, 4:00 pm in Camperdown park (corner farthest from King St, and on Church St) 'til about 5:30. I understand Paul is looking at different Halls in the area at the moment.
There are a couple of pretty rank beginners (myself and Herbie), a couple of people who have some (a year or so?) training and a couple of others I couldn't place. Paul is showing us Silver's backsword.
Anythgin else? I can send you Paul's e-mail if you like.
