thorfinn for some useful links) the PM is backing changes that are described as banning gay marriages. Worse, Labor looks set not to oppose them.

Dear Mr Albanese,
I am writing to you as my Local Member to express my concern over reports that Labor does not intend to oppose changes to the Marriage Act as announced by the Prime Minister, recently.
These changes are a step backwards towards a more discriminatory, less tolerant society. I wish to be quite clear that this matter is one of grave concern to me and that I consider Labor's lack of opposition in this matter to be remiss.
I have long voted for Labor in preference to Liberal based largely on their social policies. I am disappointed to hear that this distinction may be changing.
