Hello! Thankyou for offering to write for me!
Right! First off, dear yule-goat - please do tell the story that you want to tell. The fact that someone is wanting to write for me in these crazy fandoms at all is more than enough gleefulmaking for one yuletide, everything else is just sugar sprinkles. I'm slightly worried that my requests are more specific than in some years - genuinely, please do write what you want to write, I'm sure I'll love it!
That said, some general pointers.
I am one of those fanfic-for-social-justice types; I love love love it if my fic is aware of diversity, privilege and prejudice; I love strong presentations of characters with minority identities. (This absolutely doesn't mean that fic always has to have a moral that bashes you over the head or anything, I like pointless fluff and hott sexy slash times as much as the next fangirl).
I've requested much more contemporary media type fandoms than in many years, but I am at heart a literature student. I love word play; cleverness with language or narrative perspective; intertextality, which in this context means crossovers or cultural references, nods to fandom tropes. I love meta. Gah, I am really scared writing this will be massively off putting to you and make you think I only want fic that's too clever by half - please don't be scared!
Some things that will absolutely not ruin yuletide for me (really! Feel free to go there if you want, I like dark!), but that I'd like warnings for if you do include them: non-con or dub-con; suicide or self harm; racism, homophobia, etc; police brutality.
Right, onto specific fandoms:
My first two fandoms are London-centric. I'm a Londoner through and through, I've lived in leafy suburbs and grim council estates, I know both sides of the river, I know the City and the West End. Little touches and details that characterise My City will make me absolutely gleeful! Which is absolutely not intended to put you off if you're a non-British writer or don't know the city at all, please don't worry about 'not getting Britishisms right', or not knowing the geography or the place or anything like that, no need to stress about a brit-picking beta or anything. Just - any recognisable little touches you can add will make me smile!
Also - if you cross these two fandoms over, I will love you for ever. Ohgod, I've mentioned crossovers multiple times, I really don't want you to think that non-crossovers will ruin yuletide! Write the fic you want to write, please take all these blundering suggestions as attempts to be helpful and give you jumping off points rather than Things That You Must Do.
Rivers of London
Request: Have fun with the characters and the setting! Humour, action, introspection, magical escapades... go to town! Would prefer gen in this fandom. Things that would make me absolutely gleeful include: Crossing this over with any other 'alternative magical London' fandom; crossing this over with real life London politics and politicians; mysteries / crime solving / adventures involving exciting mythological creatures in mundane london settings; magical police bureaucracy and red tape.
Pretty much what I said in the request covers it! I am less interested in Molly-centric fic than anything else. Appearances by any of the minor queer characters will make me muchly happy.
Attack the Block
Request: I'd love humour or darkness; I love the contrast of gritty-realism with scifi / monster movie tropes; I'd love either action or introspection. I'd absolutely love to see what Moses or any of the rest of them gets up to after the end of the film; whether that's wacky scifi hijinks or a more down-to-earth attempt to live with the aftermath in the realities of London. Write the story you'd love; I'm sure I'll love it too.
Again, that does pretty much cover it.
Coming out of the film, I kept thinking about Moses trying to explain what had occurred to the police in a society that disproportionately imprisons young black men, and that disproportionately diagnoses them with schizophrenia... does Moses spend the rest of his life fighting a system that doesn't believe him, or is he recruited into some crack government alien-fighting secret service? Again, just a jump off point if it interests you. Write the fic you want to write.
One of the things I loved best about the film was the juxtaposition of tones; humour and horror, Moses' language and Sam's language. Fic that reflects this will make me squee like anything.
Regeneration trilogy
Request: Billy Prior: Anything you can possibly write about Billy will make me gleefully happy; slash absolutely welcome but what I really want is just to see more of him: snark and sarcasm, vulnerability, all the rest of it.
I'm slightly nervous this request looks like an afterthought when I'm so squeeful and specific about the other two. Regeneration was the first fandom I requested in yuletide the first year I played, about six years ago, and my love for it has not diminished. My default lj icon still has Billy Prior on it; I'm not using it for this post for fear of intimidating a writer who offered one of my other fandoms. (Can you tell I tend to overthink this shit?).
Again, the request pretty much does cover it. But, some jumping off points: a counselling session with Rivers; school days escapades with Mac; socialist activism either before or during the war; the differences between cruising for men and for women; anything featuring the 'other' Prior...
Feel free to take it as dark as you'd like, I'm absolutely up for graphic sex or violence, and do not require happy endings. (Then, fluff will not upset me either, and there's something to be said for darkfic with a glimmer of hope...)
All right! Hope that's useful and not intimidating. Hope you have fun with it! And thankyou again!
