That was one of the best fan fics I have ever read, and definitely one of my favourite two in Merlin. It's just breathtakingly exquisite. I have to say I usually stay clear of movie re-writes, but The Fountain seems to have been made for Merlin, with the reincarnation theme, and you have more than done justice to it.
It was beautiful, and painful at time, and just stunningly delicate, never faltering. It also made me cry, and I never ever cry. Not even watching that movie. Way to go author, and thank you for your effort. It bloomed beautifully.
Oh, gosh. Wow, just. Thank you so much! I'm so glad my interpretation of the film worked for you -- it really is one where everyone can come out with a different view of what it all means and how it all fits together, so I was a bit worried about how people would respond to seeing something written about that movie that was based very strongly on only one explanation of the movie.
And this: you have more than done justice to it
I don't think there's anything you could have said to make me happier. I'm in awe of that movie and how quietly, stunningly powerful it is every time I watch it, so you have no idea how amazing it is to hear that I managed to do right by it with this.
Thank you for breaking your rule on film rewrites and reading this! I'm so glad to hear it was worth it.
It does seem to just fit, doesn't it? Took a little tweaking and tailoring to fit Merlin, but still.
Thanks again, so unbelievably much, for everything you put up with as I wrote this. I don't know if I'll ever be able to fully make you get how much it means to me that you did (and still want to talk to me to boot), but trust me: it means a hell of a lot. LOVE YOU, BB. ♥
I've never seen this film but this was just beautiful. It's been a long time since I actually cried reading fanfic but I've just been sitting with tears streaming down my face for the last 15 minutes or so.
(And I cannot urge you to see the movie strongly enough. It's a mind-blowingly beautiful piece of film -- acting, writing, direction, music; all of it. Does a far better job of things than this fic could, as it really is a story that works better with those added visual and aural elements. Go watch it; it'll probably make you cry again, but it is so, so worth it.)
This was so tragic but oh, so lovely. I've never seen The Fountain before, but as someone said a few comments above me, the themes in it fit Merlin incredibly well. Thanks so much for posting this story.
Thank you for reading it even though you hadn't seen the film! And seriously, try to correct that as soon as possible; I've gushed about it in my A/N for long enough, but it really is amazing and so worth your time.
