Oh wow. I've never really been interested in the whole Igrain/Uther and Nimueh friendship before now (even though I should have been, because that's all sorts of complicated) but wow. I'm like fascinated with Nimueh now. And strange thing to wonder, I know, but I wonder if she did the ripped dress thing back then, because that'd be weird, thinking of the King and Queen kicking back with a woman with a dress all ripped up.

Anyway, really well written. This makes me look forward to the new episode so much more now. Not that I wasn't before, but it was more of a "yay, new Merlin" looking forward rather than "Ooooh, Arthur and Uther backstory." Anyway, seriously awesome job. You really drew me into a subject that I really wasn't that interested in before and I'd love to read more by you regarding the old school crowd of Camelot.

It's an aspect of the show I've only recently taken an interest in, but it has been so easy for me to become completely fascinated by Igraine, both as a character and as an instigator of a behavior in Uther that is pretty radically different from what we see on the show (in some respects; in others, like his devotion to something he deems necessary, not so much. Arthur has to get it from somewhere, after all). Nimueh is also quite interesting, especially regarding her involvement in Arthur's conception and birth, but she's one I haven't spent as much time thinking about. I'll figure her out eventually, but until then, hey -- it's an excuse to write character study after character study, and there's nothing I love more than that.

I'm glad that I could make you excited for the new episode (I have been since I first saw the early-release promo pictures and went, "Ohmygod, is that Igraine?"), and just a section of the show universe that you hadn't had interest in before. I've become rather attached to these guys and all they ways they ( ... )

oh, this was lovely. so full of love and yet really threatening as well. I actually felt really sorry for Nimueh too.

At some point, I'll find the bit about Nimueh that makes me understand her as a character, or at least understand how I should go about trying to understand her as a character. Until then, I'll just feel vaguely sorry for her; good to hear I'm not alone in this. Thank you so much!

I don't even know how to respond to this, other than: wow. That was brilliant, beautiful, and aching. It echoes with both the series canon and the legend, and then continues to ring with that which is simply belief. A gorgeous piece.

"Aching," I think, is exactly the tone I wanted with this, if only because everything about this generation of Camelot and how they all end up makes me want to die a bit on the inside from sadness. They're a bit like the Marauders in Harry Potter in that respect. "That respect" meaning "the way thinking about them makes me want to curl up into a ball and watch sappy romcom after sappy romcom while telling myself that no, really, that never actually happened to them, they're fine, even when I know every way they're not." I swear that made sense somehow.

Thank you! I'm thrilled you enjoyed it.

No, that totally makes sense. It's sort of how I go into this entire fandom, and I felt the same for the Marauders in Harry Potter. When I read Marauders fic, it's with the suspension of acknowledgment that these people are dead. When I read Merlin fic, or even watch Merlin, it's with the suspension of acknowledgment that this light, fluffy, positive show will eventually end in pain, sorrow, and very few people alive. That everything they accomplish will, in the end, be ruined. All that will remain is the standard to which every mention of "honor" or "courage" is measured. I have a very long and in-depth idea for a fic on how this will indeed end that way. While I want to write it, it also makes me want to eat a dozen cookies to balance things out.
