The best part--the best part--about Spock, now that Jim's months of carefully-planned seduction have paid off, is that it is still just as hard as it used to be to convince him to break any sort of rules. It just makes it all the more fun to try, all the more awesome when Jim succeeds.

For instance: now, when Jim is on his knees in the coat closet, Spock's cock in his mouth and the bass beat of whatever pop-dance number the DJ is playing thumping dully, muffled, through the walls from the main ballroom of whichever hotel it is the juniors have rented out for this year's prom. It's loud, but not so much so that Jim can't hear Spock's half-hearted and half-choked protests over it, little bursts of We shouldn't and But the kids and We are here to chaperone and Jim, this is highly inappropriate for men of our position at a school-related function. At least, Jim's guessing that's what

Illogically, Iowa makes him think of Vulcan. There's no basis for it. The temperature, like all of Earth, is a few degrees too cool; the land too flat; the sun just barely too yellow-bright. Even the dust that blows up around his feet is different, more soil than ground metallic rock and consequently lacking the faint taste of iron where it curls up high enough for him to breathe in and taste. There's nothing in Iowa for him but Jim, and even that is sometimes an assertion with questionable proof, and yet. There is still something, just enough of the dust and the sunlight and the summer heat and way the expanse of the sky forms a sharp contrast against a ground that is all dirt, scrub-grass, and no water. In all of Iowa, and for reasons he barely knows and won't ever be able to justify, there is something that makes a portion of Spock ache--not for missing Vulcan, but for the fact that Jim will never have the chance to see Spock's home and be reminded, however illogically, of his own.
