Editing woe

Hrm, I hate my manuscript today. It's gotta be alchemical because I go through this with most of my writing projects. The blush of creation is over, and the editor emerges in that tight-bunned matronly way and raps my knuckles over and over with her yardstick, and what are you doing with this foul mess

I wish I could remember which author said that, at some point, he'd come down the stairs raving about how awful his book was and that no one would ever want to read such a pile of crap, to which his wife would respond (since this happened every time), "Oh, you must be almost done."

Yeah, see if the dominatrix works. After all, the idea isn't to intimidate you into despair, but to entice you into doing better.
