Alcohol baaaaad

I hope that the wonderfully-aptly named professor Nutt, in studying the relative effects of alcohol, heroin, crack and other drugs, took into account the fact that more or less anyone can buy alcohol cheaply in the supermarket.   While I agree that other, less legal drugs are by no means impossible to obtain, I believe the process is not quite as ( Read more... )

While I agree that other, less legal drugs are by no means impossible to obtain, I believe the process is not quite as simple as dropping in to Tescos for a slab of tinnies.

Exactly. A couple or three days ago I was behind a young chap in the till queue who had nothing else except ten boxes, each of 24 half-litre cans of Oz lager, in his trolley. To my astonishment, he was charged but eight quid a box; I imagine some special offer must have been on for the stuff. Were the more informally-marketed substances as easily and as cheaply available (as I have heard some pundits recommend when interviewed), I suspect that the statistics might indeed be somewhat different.
