Got the class D provisional (class D is all buses, class D1 is buses up to 16 seats, "D1 category restriction 1" is what you have on your licence if you passed a car test before 1/1/1997, 16 seater not for hire and reward

Quite agree about fixed limits; 'reasonable and prudent' is IIRC applicable for the overall limit in some Leftpondian states, though they do have lower urban limits, some of them between certain times only, IIRC.

Will you be able to retain all the grandfather-rights vehicle classes on your current licence when you have the D class added? ISTR[1] that one had specifically to ask for them to be retained when changing one's licence, otherwise they took them off.

[1]remembered from many years ago, so may be very different now.
