Soooo why did ansibs buy this...I was scrolling through Mandarake and I saw how pretty the coloring style was (is this SAI? I'm sooo bad at being able to tell the programs apart, since my drawing abilities are limited to pencil + paper), plus...if my spidey-sense was tingling correctly, then it seemed like Kagami would be a squirrel in this (honestly, what's up with Japanese doujinshi turning Kagami into some sort of animal? I've seen dog, cat, tiger, rabbit, and this time squirrel...).
OMG it's so cute. I mean, if you don't like Kagami why are you here??? you probably won't think anything of it but there are a few scenes in there (the Kuroko-lifts-Kagasquirrel-to-his-cheek, the "come here, Kagasquirrel!" scene, the last one where #E)(Ud#%Y@#!!!! Kuroko kisses Kagasquirrel!!!) that made me squee out loud from the adorable-ness.
And and and then halfway through Aomine makes an appearance!! I would have been just fine with KagaKuro shenanigans for 30 pages but Aomine got thrown in the mix. He takes one look at the "small animal" and grabs it and goes, "What's this?" Aaaand...as an audience we discover together that Aomine can recognize his rival from his eyebrows LOL
He starts to 'play' with Kagami (read: being mean) and then asks Kuroko to give Kagami to him (in which of course Kuroko answers no). XDD it's...it's just perfect and hilarious.
The panels and frames are big! The art, despite the cover being just a tad off, was also really good. Nobody got drawn with strange expressions and Kagasquirrel was drawn soooo unbearably cute, with that big fluffy tail as he munches happily on Maji burgers...omg I need me one of those.
(Actually, as an complete off-subject fact, it is NOT illegal to own a squirrel in Japan! You can adopt momonga, like in Samurai Champloo, from pet stores or order them online.)
