But you're right - without the net in the last few years, I'd have gone nuts. Not just the friends angle (which is crucial in itself) but in the info/empowerment sense. Geeks might not make great drinking buddies but they're wonderful things all the same :)

that's true too... instant access to information about ANYTHING. not in depth but when you a little bit it's wonderful!

i disagree geeks drink more.

Some of the software geeks I've known have been fine but the systems programmers...!! Their conversational skills are strictly limited! And they nearly always live with their mums...

As for info, if you join specialist lists, you can get pretty good in-depth stuff too :)
