So. Textbooks on amazon.ca cost about half as much as the ones at the UT bookstore. However, it appears that the free shipping is free because it is completely useless ( Read more... )

hmm. generally amazon.ca free shipping is fairly good. i'm not sure how this works with condos (i think it depends on your concierge policy) but what may have happened is that with certain packages (in my experience it is totally random, not done exactly by weight or by price, though it is more often with expensive stuff), canada post won't actually deliver without the signature of the creditcard holder/recipient. instead they drop it off at your designated postal outlet and then a card is mailed to you that you have to bring (with id) to pick up the books. but this card business takes at least 2 days to get in the mail, sometimes over a week (i suspect i have a crappy post office) and is horribly frustrating when you obsessively track packages as much as i do and can see that your books are sitting 2 blocks away from you and you're still waiting for the card to pick them up and you try and can't get them without the card and really need them.
