[The video comes on to a close up of Beat's face, only lit by the NEXUS itself ala the Blairwitch Project... and Beat looks almost as scared, though he's fighting hard to hide it. Around his face one can see that.... he's under a sheet, probably in his room.]

D-dude... it's pretty damn loud out there, huh? [deep breath...]

[ With the network flickering in and out, it had been hard to check up on everyone -- so, after a few failed attempts at getting in touch with everyone, he'd decided to go ahead and check up on them in person. It hadn't been that bad wandering around in the halls; he'd set the beacon to bob after him and shine its light on the hallway ahead of him, and his own music keeps the crashing thunder from bothering him.

And, since the power being out means that the electronic locks on the door are down, he's able to wander right into Beat's room when he manages to find it. AND SO, HEY, BEAT. There's suddenly a looming shadow standing RIGHT OVER your bed, illuminated by the beacon's light and the sudden flash of lightning from outside. ]

... Beat? You under there?

ACTION.

[oh god why is there someone looming over him RIGHT AFTER CROSS SCARED HIM TO DEATH!? Beat's eyes goes huge before he shrieks-

-and takes a swing at the shadow, like a real man]

[ OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL ]

[ Well, Neku wasn't exactly expecting to get punched, so he doesn't have time to back away or protect himself before Beat's punch connects solidly with his jaw. -- And oh my God that hurts like hell; Neku stumbles backwards, clutching his battered face, and goes down on the floor with a yelp and a thump.

It takes him a couple firm shakes of his head to stop his vision from swimming, and then -- ]

Beat, what the hell -- ?!

Are you crazy ?! What the hell do you think you're doing ?!

[Finally realizing what he did, Beat ran over, kneeling over his friend with a look of worry Neku probably hasn't seen on him since the Game.]

Oh man oh man I'm so sorry! You okay?!

[ This, Neku tells himself, is the last time he does a good deed.

You go around trying to check and make sure your friends are okay, and you get called a zombie motherfucker and get your clock cleaned. Some things just aren't worth it, and he's thinking that this might be one of them. ]

[ -- But he can't exactly stay pissed off Beat when the other boy is looking at him with a face like that, so he drops it with a sigh. At least it's dark; Josh won't be able to see the whopping bruise on the side of his face and spend the next week giggling at him. ]

I'm fine. [ ... Okay, his face hurts like hell, and he's pretty sure Beat split his lip, but you can't go around admitting that out loud. :| ] ... Who the hell were you expecting? [ Gingerly, he's reaching up to cradle his poor, bruised jaw. ]

[He takes a huge gulp of air, shivering as he fights to calm down. This was Phones after all, the only person he's let see him scared since he was little. Hell, Neku had seen his terrified beyond belief in the Game!

But this isn't the Game, so he shouldn't be so spooked. This is nothing! Right?]

Sorry man... jus' gone an... freaked myself out.

[ It's only now that Neku realizes just how freaked out Beat is, and... well, okay, maybe he feels a little bad for sneaking up on him like that, even if he hadn't meant to freak him out. So, the teenager reaches upwards to pluck the little bobbing ball of his beacon out of the air, turning it in his lap until the light is pointed up at the ceiling and illuminating the space between them. ]

... Crazy stuff on the NEXUS? [ He'd muted his once the first of the flickering posts started, figuring there wasn't much point in getting up-to-date with things while communications were so screwed up. ]

[ He reaches up to tug his headphones off his ears, blinking as the thunder crashes with an ear-splitting clap outside. ]

... You sure you weren't just letting your imagination run away with you? [ He runs his tongue across his lower lip experimentally, wincing as he tastes blood. ]

[He pauses, his head drooping.]

I dunno man... maybe. But man, I was SURE I saw, like, a screaming skull face an' it laughed dude... Pi-face's laughin' ain' got nothing on this.

[He grumped, then blinked, noticing the blood on Neku's lip.]
