It's a pair of statues on either side of the Tiber...I have pictures of one of them back in NZ. They're made of marble, missing their arms and most of their faces by now (soft rock--literally!). When I saw the statue, it was wearing a piece of paper taped to its chest with something in green ink. Our tour guide refused to translate...didn't recognize any of the words but I betcha it was either entirely scandalous, entirely scathing, entirely obscene, or some combination of the above. And even if it wasn't, I will keep thinking about it that way, because it's fun.

Imagine--a two thousand-year-old conversation. If those statues could talk, what do you think they'd say?

I would add only that "Sesame Street" in its own way does the same thing. It speaks at a children's level about diversity and equality, but it also does a great job of adding "hidden" meanings for the adults who inevitably are watching with their children. Very nice summation of the Muppets. I loved that show!
