Wow, I found a clip on YouTube, and it's not even open to interpretation, he literally repeated and clarified the fact that he was being racist. I also found a clip of Key at a press conference afterward, and it was kind of disappointing. I get what he says about being too shocked to engage Henry during the show, but then he acts like he might not be entirely sure of what Henry meant, and he doesn't want to jump to conclusions? Sheesh.

I can believe Mr Key saying he was too shocked to continue. Every time I've seen him on the breakfast show with Mr Harvey--it was about once every 2 weeks entertainment, and usually Key would take Harvey to *school*--he managed to fire back something witty. Thing is, when you go so far above and beyond, there are no witty answers, and the smartest thing to do is just shut up.

You know what else? On thinking about it, there is a way this could have been made absolutely hilarious, both in a political and in a non-assholish way, and that's really sad.

If, say, Mr Harvey had said, "You know, somebody like Haliotis Iris, or maybe Apteryx Mantelli. Real New Zealanders," it would have been screamingly funny. One is the abalone shell and the other a brown kiwi, both of whom have inhabited the islands long before a certain species of furless apes arrived.
