( THE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO ANTE )

|| BASICS
If you're looking at this guide, you're looking to find a summarized version of all the tl;dr that's in all the info pages-while it's nice that you're interested in this guide, reading over the long version is highly encouraged if you wish to grasp the concept of the game in much more depth and detail. Still here? Okay, read onwards.

Basically, you've been pulled from your world to aid in the quest for a cure to a supervirus that's beginning to spread(and as cheesy as that sounds, it's true). How did you get pulled along? You touched a BEACON. A little spherical object about the size of a crystal ball; that floating thing. With it, came a message:

❝ If you can hear us, please-help us.

We don't know what went wrong.

One minute, everything was going as smooth as it could, and then by the next, people started getting sick. It wasn't that bad at first, wasn't that big of a problem. We managed to isolate it, managed to come up with a quick-fix - and with years of research backing us up, we had everything under control. But we were wrong. So wrong. It didn't work, and now everyone else is dead, dying, gone -

We don't know how it happened.

We don't know what else to do.

We've lost everything we have, everyone we loved, and you'll meet the same end if we don't find a way out of this. So please, please, if you can hear this, we need your help. We're out of options, and you're the only chance we have left. ❞

You touched it of your own free will, right? So no, you haven't been kidnapped or anything, everything will be explained by somebody once you arrive at SPHERE HQ, located in CERIU.

|| SETTING
Somebody who's been here long enough will greet you (no matter the hour, there's bound to be at least one person wandering around to help). They'll explain a number of things. What you're here for (to help find a cure), how you can help out (scavenging, medical, babysitting, problem solving or scientific are just a few general options), the time period (it's roughly some thousand years into the future), some of the few facilities that are essential to living here (rooms, cafeteria, storage, labs etc) and anything's that's happened as of late (see updates tag in anteceded).

Maybe if they're nice enough, they'll give you a quick tour of the place. Who knows, you might make a new friend in the process! They'll also be happy to explain what a NEXUS is and if that isn't enough, the tutorial inside the NEXUS should be of some help if it's your first time using such a piece of technology. If your character has powers, it's been watered down to 30%, if they're so inclined to try out their abilities upon arrival.

The place you're in? Has four levels. It's called SPHERE HQ and the floor you arrived at is 3RD Floor, West Central. As for the actual location location, it's Los Angeles itself, renamed to CERIU due to worldly matters. See this post for a more detailed list of locations; all the rooms are currently OPEN. Don't forget to check the weather from time to time (the NEXUS comes with a function for reminding people) if you plan on going outside to see whether it's really a dream or not! It could get a little windy.

|| COMMON KNOWLEDGE
Let's start with the virus. It's a bug that's starting to spread in your own worlds and before you left, you might have caught wind of such a thing happening (newspapers, word of mouth etc). It's composed of nanites/nanomachines, tiny bugs that have taken up residence inside a character's body and no matter what kind of being you are, it's already made itself cozy. Everybody has an equal chance of succumbing to its effects, so nobody is spared, even if they're immortal. Some people (for example, those with existing sicknesses) maybe find themselves a little lucky; the bug's progress is slowed down, but they'll fall ill to it eventually. It's not clear why or how it was created, let alone spread to other worlds. Well, that's what you're here for. And if you're more brawns over brains, you can help out those already seeking a cure.

How? Easy. Scavenging. The last of humanity resides in the dome. It's a research facility, modified to house at least two hundred (maybe a little extra) in one sitting, but sadly, it's unequipped to deal with the long term effects of playing host to that many people. That's where your character comes in. CERIU, the city itself is empty, save for a number of water and terrestrial creatures; characters will be able to traverse the outside world for items to bring back. Buddy up, get some weapons, check the weather, leave a memo and off you go. Food is very important for survival and there will be occasional events logging this, so keep an eye on the OOC comm if interested!

The infirmary is going to be packed at some point, so medics and doctors are always appreciated! And medical supplies. Unfortunately, unless you're a scientist or you've gained clearance from one of the residing scientific minds, the labs are off limits. Don't worry, there is always one of the outside scientists who might give you clearance if you ask nicely.

There will always be something for somebody to do and if you're not sure, just drop a line at the contact post and we'll figure out something to do! We're also open to player plots, if you're so inclined!

|| WORLD HOPPING
It's how you got here in the first place. BEACONS function as the device responsible for bringing people in and transporting them out. At the present time, world hopping is enabled, but only within the time period. Don't expect to find anybody alive-they're all gone, due to the virus. Register your BEACON at the labs or third floor before you go time hopping; it's a safety measure, just in case something happens and you're stranded. You'll also find that the power limit will gradually wear off the longer you remain in your own world (50% and it goes up from there), but it will be imposed again the moment you decide to travel back to SPHERE HQ. And yes, you can travel to worlds that aren't your own, provided that you travel with somebody from said world.

Time travel is disabled for the moment. This post explains in more detail the limitations and what can happen if you go world hopping.
