Do you think you really need a private tutor? I think your English is good enough for self-education, and all you need is practice. I did have a private tutor when I was at school, but since then it has only been self-improvement, and I think I have improved myself considerably. Here's the plan I would recommend (and that's more or less what I did when I was your age): read only English books away from home (Russian books only at home); regularly watch movies in English with English subtitles; find foreign colleagues and establish regular correspondence with them; and practice English with whomever is available (I am often available, by the way). Practice makes perfect, and that's it. And private tutors are good only for children and those adults who have much money but little self-discipline (I guess you have little money and quite enough self-discipline for not wasting it on a tutor).

Yes, I think so. I am very upset with the situation in our home (we are not allowed to remove all this trash and rubbish, and Alex's mother obviously doesn't want to do it herself), and so my self-discipline dropped (or should I say "fell down"?). Sometimes I am so upset that I don't want even to get up. I hope it will be a little better after my journey to Montenegro, but I still need exeternal support. So I decided that a good private tutor and regular practice is a good idea for me, it will take some relief to my life. Also I'm thinking about trying some kinds of sports and about spending weekends in libraries, not in home. I used to spend a lot of time at home -- reading, knitting, learning etc -- but now it seems to be impossible.

I condole with you and wish you the best of luck. By the way, I totally understand what you feel about rubbish, and unfortunately my situation is similar: I am more or less the only person in our family (including parents and in-laws) who feels that way. Fortunately, I live mostly away from my parents and in-laws and can maintain something close to my ideal, even though without help from anyone. Now that you have explained your situation, it seems to me that a tutor may be a good idea, after all. But do not forget about the other ways of practice, too.

Speaking about libraries, when I was a little younger than you are now, I spent a lot of time in the Library of Foreign Literature. Do you go there? I think it is pretty good. And the British Council, which is in the same building, can be quite useful for learning English (I did not go there, but my mother-in-law is a regular visitor, and she likes it).

Sports is also a good idea. I am jogging almost every day since April, and I like it. I think it helps with self-discipline, too.

Thank you! Also I want to thank you for information on the concert in memoriam Ghilarov. I have just bought a ticket. Hope to see you.

No, the only library in Moscow (except the library near my parents' house, where I used to do a part of my homework some years ago) I spent time in is the library of Biological faculty in MSU. Thank you for your advice. I'm going to try the Russian State Library, and the Library of Foreign Literature too.
