I'm scared of most dogs, so my inclination is to not like them. Unless i know the dog (and its owner) and i'm convinced its a well-behaved, clean dog, then i start to like the dog. Or if its a cute little teeny puppy. But it'd have to be pretty darn cute.
weiner dogs are totally ridiculous animals. all they do is hump everything . everything. i have had the misfortune of being humped by a weiner dog. they never stop and they are fast little dogs. i advise all to stay clear of weiner dogs!!!
I don't understand why people these days want to own such vicious macho dogs. Those kinds of dogs scare me, and the people who want to own them scare me even more.
BTW, I just found your journal doing a searh for other Raymond Chandler fans!
I can't stand those people who flagrantly disregard leash laws in parks and on bike trails, arguing that their dogs don't bite. That is the stupidest statement anyone could make because they have no idea whether some smell on you might trigger the dog (like that case a couple of years ago where a poor woman in San Francisco was mauled and eventually killed in her own apartment building's hallway by rotweillers or pitbulls or some other monstrosities--the owners later said the dogs "would never do anything like that", when clearly they would and did). Or all of these morons that leave their pitbulls around their toddlers and the inevitable happens. People need to keep their damn dogs on leashes.
As for Raymond Chandler, I think "The Lady in the Lake" is my favorite. I just recently read Wilkie Collins' "The Moonstone", which was excellent. I thought it might be difficult reading just because of the time it was written in, but in my opinion, it was easier to read than "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" and totally drew me in.
I think I actually like Hammett a bit more than Chandler...along the lines of "The Thin Man" and , of course, "The Maltese Falcon"...I feel like I should have watched the movie before I read "The Maltese Falcon" because I ended up being disappointed in the movie. Other than Hammett and Chandler, I'm not too familiar with the genre, but I read a book called "The Blind Assassin" by Margaret Atwood, which was fantastic because it was sort of a story within a story within a story, one of which is a science fiction story and the others combining gothic drama and hardboiled writing style. It was an amazing book.
I read that entry on your journal about the Italian horror movie. It reminded me of "The Corpse Vanishes" with Bela Lugosi. Have you seen it? It's one of my all time favorite classic horror movies.

I adored The Lady in the Lake, although Farewell, My Lovely is still my favourite.
Do you like Hammett as well? Or any of the other hardboiled writers?
