In which Anthony abuses the humble comma, a retrospective

Nov 07, 2007 22:21

This post has been a while in the making. For the last three or four or five days I have sat down at the computer and said 'I'm going to update my eljay!' and then other things have got in the way. Specifically, mostly, an essay that I've now given in to be marked so that I can send it off to Oxford. It'll form the majority of my philosophy ( Read more... )

:-D It was awesome to see you Anto! Tea through kitkats is the best thing EVER - your life will never be the same again. How's the hat been?

Also - Eat More Bacon?! Wtf?! Explain! (as opposed to Exterminate!)

:D Indeed it never will. :D How was mango #5? (The hat is good, and has been met with approval. It is lovely. :D)

Eat More Bacon is a very sensible name for a sheep. Racing is not a sensible occupation, that's all... :P

Magdalen is so damn pretty; if I was there I don't think I'd ever get any work done, I'd just prance around with the deer all day :D
Tea and kitkats = <3
Glad to hear you are well!
xxxx
(p.s. if you're looking for another place to visit...)

I can actually imagine you prancing. :D I think I'd get lost. I was also tempted to apply to Lincoln, because, you know, it has a lake (at least, I think it's Lincoln..?) but I thought that I would fall in it so I decided against. Also, yay Bambis... :P

(I have heard about your exploits with KitKats in the British Museum. You all are rather awesome, you know. :D)

(I need to actually find my diary and write things down in it and work out when I'm actually at home and can thus run away to visit people. :P Hopefully I'll be summoned to your domain before Christmas anyway, I hope, in which case, depending on when, I might try to just go home late and stalk visit people whilst I'm there, although betting on being summoned is probably not very wise. :P

In fact, the sensible thing would be to do my coursework now so that I can not have to devote weekends to it in the future. Good plan... :D)

Perhaps I could drag you over to the US of A and then you could be jealous of me too! (Or something. Actually my university life is horrifically boring, but I have a Dalek poster so it is all good.)

Oo yay Magdalen.

I wish that I could have several extra days in which I could travel all around the world and see people in for free, in which case I would squee at your Dalek, and make official Exterminate!y noises at it with my Dalek voicebox. Why is uni so boring? :-(

Magdalen! -takes a moment to flail-

I really must find kitkats now, and also some tea that is not spiced chai, as I feel that might not quite produce the desired effect (although people are always coming into Starbucks and ordering their chai with espresso & other odd things in, so perhaps it might be all right).

I miss my university life very much.

Magdalen is pretty. Although I wouldn't mind if they pooled me somewhere else, because Oxford is love.

...do I dare disturb the universe enquire as to what chai is?

Also, I should probably own up to being terrified of ordering the scary combi things in Starbucks. What is syrup, in this context? What does it do? *flails*

So I've heard. I really must visit Oxford... actually, I want to do a tour of Oscar Wilde Places. (I'm still regretting not being as much of an Oscar Wilde appreciator when I was in Paris two years ago.)

Well, the chai I have currently is just a spiced black tea. If one were to buy a chai tea latte at Starbucks, however, one's barista would use a concentrated syrup made of the same tea... type ingredients (I'm actually not sure how they make it, but I do know it's highly concentrated!). Then hot water is added, which helps steep the tea and bring out the spice, and then the rest of the cup is filled with steamed milk. Some people add other syrups or espresso shots though (chai latte + espresso is disgusting, as I discovered by mistake this morning, though a chai latte with steamed eggnog is delicious).

-giggles- It's just flavoured water and sugar and such and hardly threatening, I promise! And it brings delicious flavour to your latte!

You really must. Oxford is wonderful. When you do, you must tell me, because it will give me an excuse to go there if I'm not there already. :P I didn't see any Wilde places that I know of when I was there, but I did see the original Stone Table... :D

...tea and espresso does sound somewhat counter intuitive to say the least.

But it is far from self-explanatory! And comes in many beguiling forms! And a latte is just a milky coffee, right?

I know this is almost blasphemous of me to say, but I suspect I may have loved the movie Stardust even more than the book. I have possibly told you this before, but it was just so -- sparkly and fantastic and full of things like Captain Shakespeare! :D

YOU DALEK SYMPATHIZER, YOU! I BET YOU WERE HIDING ONE AWAY FROM THE GOVERNMENT!

Also, and most importantly, do we get to see evidence of your Creative Writing course? :DD

Bobby De Niro in a dress does seem to have that effect on most people YOU BLASPHEMER, so I suppose it can be forgiven. Although the book does have sneaky!Septimus and awesome!unicorn and Tori!tree and feminist!ending and beautiful!letter, and...

I WASN'T HIDING IT FROM THE GOVERNMENT! pleezpleezme HAD IT! (And she mostly hid it on her mother's desk where it would make noises unexpectedly and make her dive behind the sofa in an amusing and Pavlovian way when everybody least expected it. She is a cruel cruel girl.)

You might do eventually, but I didn't actually really do very much new writing. Just talking and learning about writing, I need to write my sonnet, still. And catgryph's zombie thing, thinking of such things...

It did indeed. Except, as I recall, the unicorn was KILLED BRUTALLY, at which point I'm pretty sure I had to put down the book for a second and collect my thoughts, and at that point I realised the morbid awesomeness of Gaiman in full ...

Well then do we get to see oooold writing? ;)

Well, yes. But as Mad the parrot once poignantly said, you can't make a good omlette without breaking a few eggs... :D

(Or, as Mr Vandemar said, without killing a few people. At least, I think it was Mr Vandemar rather than Croup...)

Mumblemumblemumble I don't know. I need to talk to someone in the know about these things before I put stuff up in case I try to get it published...
