I just heard this story on npr on the way home from the post office, more precisely, on the way home after being rejected from the post office (they locked the doors just as I was reaching for the handle). It seems like France has always been afraid of losing its French-ness. They also claim that they are very open minded when it comes to non-white people/immigrants as long as they become "Frenchmen," but that's just another kind of xenophobia ( ... )
