So, I made the jump to a more grown up blogging service. My experience with Wordpress on the Gender Beat project has been enjoyable, and it's definitely a superior site offering flexibility and great services. Also, it's prettier. The posts don't have a "friends only" option, but you can password protect things (like in lj) and just have a password that you control who knows/doesn't know. I want people to read my thesis, but because of publishing issues with SCA corporate, I can't legally publish my writing without their permission. So, I'm password protecting those posts and anyone who wants the password has to contact me, explain who they are and why the want the password before I'll give it to them.

Overall, though, wordpress is way more sophisticated, has a much cleaner look, and way more creative options.
