Lark on wing, snail on thorn, etcetera

Toast is home now, and looking remarkably lively considering what she's been through. The worst bit was a couple of nights ago, when the vet told us that she had stopped breathing at about 2:30 in the morning, that they had gotten her revived and her heart rate was back up, but that she would need a blood transfusion. That part was bad ( Read more... )

It is still considered borderline tacky to ask for cash instead of gifts, but it's becoming more common (as many couples live together before marriage and already have all the spatulas and placemats, matching or otherwise, they will ever need thankyouverymuch.)

A more tasteful alternative which sounds appropriate to your situation is specifying that you already have all the spatulas etc. etc., thanks... but if people still want to buy you something Home Depot and/or Loew's gift cards would be appropriate.

Or, if you're suddenly feeling materially well-off (hah!) (if you are, can I have some money, please?) you can ask people to donate to such-and-such charity in lieu of buying you low-end espresso machines.

(But you WILL actually have to put a small note in the invitations if you want to put the kibosh on the fourteen low-end espresso machines coming your way in the absence of a registry.)

Also meeting with caterers is okay. Caterers are grand! (and they cost it, too.) But man, meeting with the cake people--it gives me the shakes just thinking about it.

And I'm very happy to hear your kit-cat is going to be okay. (I meant to say that to begin with, but I distract easily, and four paragraph is too much to expect.)

Hurrah for Toast's miraculous recovery!

You have said that I could give you two a non-registry and utterly useless gift, right? Don't throw a spanner into my plans now . . .

(There is, unfailingly, the Amazon wedding registry. Which is very, very green.)

Poor Toast. There's nothing sadder than a sick pet.

Amazon probably is a great place to register. Had we done the gift thing, that is probably what we would have done.
