Hardcore feminists are so strange...I seriously wonder how their little minds work.

It's important to remember that like environmentalism, feminism is a religion. It has its own priestesses, its own creed and catechism; it has its zealots, its apostates and its heretics. It's not interested in truth; it is the Truth. It is the Way, the Truth and ( Read more... )

I am told that the database at the Mayo clinic has over 40 categories available for “sex.” Yeah. Some folks have XXY or XYY chromosomes. Some people have congenital oddities like hermaphroditism or androgen insensitivity. Some people have been modified by hormone treatments and/or surgery. Et cetera. Add it all up and you get a bunch of categories - most of them admittedly rare - for biological sex.

And if you use the word “gender” properly, to differentiate social identity from biological sex, it gets even more complicated.

Feminists may interpret this complexity differently than you do, but they did not invent it.

Yah, well, Ripley's Believe It or Not! tells of the occasional two-headed chicken. That doesn't mean chickens are bicephalic. It just means that sports and mutations happen.

It's possible to imagine a third sex, one which is required for reproduction (one recent SF story referred to them as “uncles,” who participate in the parents' sexual intercourse if a child is wanted; at puberty a child of either sex might mature into an 'uncle' instead). The point is that it's a regular and natural development - not a fluke, a surgical modification, or a litigated fiction.- 'Social identity' my foot. A clone of Christine Jorgensen would be male, a clone of Billie Jean King would be female - this does not change, despite every attempt by both parties to obscure these facts. The myth of “'gender' as a social construct” has been debunked soundly everywhere that experimentation is attempted. Boys will indeed be boys, despite every attempt to erase that identity, and girls stubbornly remain girls. (Boys use their dolls as clubs, while girls give ( ... )

Your “boys will indeed be boys” argument that biological sex always manifests as social gender - that males will always resist an effort to make them more feminine - is obviously incorrect. If you were right, feminism as you describe it could not exist.

How is it, then, that we have the transgendered people who offend your sensibilities in your original post? Why do we have people who do the opposite of what you predict: trans women, born biologically male, who resist any effort to make them masculine, but instead insist on acting feminine?
