So, like every other sane person out there, I've been watching Fringe, and I think the latest episode has sparked a fair bit of discussion, and while I do have theories and all that,
flatlined just linked me to a
post on Peter's role in the most recent season, and I had thoughts. And they're going to go under a cut to save your flists. Probably also going

It's like you opened my brain and stole my thoughts. Well, you worded them a lot better than I would have, but THOUGHT STEALER.

See, that right there? Sure. A bit. That's fine. I just don't how we got to this point where she loves him so much that it hurts this much.
Leaving you another link because other people are always better at putting my thoughts into words than I am.
BUT WE CAN DISAGREE. THAT'S FINE. I am used to being unpopular opinion girl.

SURE WE CAN DISAGREE, BUT ONLY IF IT MEANS I'M RIGHT AND YOU'RE WRONG. JUST KIDDING. :) I'm not sure how the Peter/Olivia got this far either. The way I explain it in my head is that her hurt about him and Altliv is just the embodiment of her hurt that no one knew her well enough to know the difference. I don't really know - I guess I need to see how it all pans out. DON'T LET ME DOWN, FRINGE WRITERS.
And is it just me, or do you get a strangely familiar/maternal vibe from Nina Sharp when she's talking to Olivia? Like she knows her before or something?

I think it had to be Peter who was her anchor. John and Charlie are important parts of her past, but that's just it: they're past. She may not be over their deaths, but she's found some sort of peace with them. Ella and Rachel are her emotional touchstones (and yes, it was awesome that talking to Ella finally snapped her back), but on some level they've always been the people who she had to protect, the people who she had to be strong for. Season 2, however, spent much time building up to the idea that Peter was the one person Olivia trusted enough to talk to when she's scared, the one person she was willing to show that sort of vulnerability to. Maybe some of it was love, but I think most of it was trust and family. She saw him as an equal, and although she's spent more time rescuing him, I think some part of her trusted that he would do the same for her and that translated to Peter being the external embodiment of her attempt to regain herself ( ... )

Of course, I'm guessing Alt!Olivia in her brain certainly isn't helping matters.
I'm wondering if Olivia's biggest problem isn't the destruction of a potential love affair, but the betrayal of friendship and trust. Peter, who has arguably become the person she trusts and probably her best friend (that's my read of what's been building for the last couple seasons), didn't even notice she was gone; even if they hadn't been about to embark on a relationship, that would be a hell of a kick to the gut.
I'm still blinking at Peter missing the significance of the change in coffee. Changes in mood? Yeah, okay, he wanted to believe he was having an effect and Olivia was in love. Changes in coffee from what Olivia had been drinking for two years prior? ( ... )
