Does anyone remember this song? Or, more particularly, this video? 90's kids FTW! Anyway, it's based on the traditional American ballad On Top of Old Smokey which, strangely enough, was covered by ABBA in a medley (that appears on the re-issue of 'ABBA' the album) which included Midnight Special and 'Pick A Bale O' Cotton', which my preferred ( Read more... )

Ohman, I remember that one! And I know Pick A Bale exists, I've got it on an old folk CD somewhere.

Do you remember those song books that everyone had in primary school? There'd be class sets and an accompanying CD or tape and we all had to sing along? Anyway, that's where I original remember 'Pick a Bale' from, not that we ever got to sing it. We always did the songs on recycling and bridge building, randomly. I'm still holding a grudge against Miss Lucy ;)

Yes. I totally remember that song! I actually used it in my writing somewhere recently -- in a rather peculiar context too (which I don't want to say in public but if you want to know, I'd tell you personally).

Its not that I get that song stuck in my head, I just know it from childhood well, well enough that I used it in my writing.
