Is there a technical reason the house doesn't have a backup mail server (lack of hardware, etc), or is it more just a lack of manpower/willpower/etc?

Both are understandable, but the former is something can can be addressed via fundraising...

I was also wondering about the backup question. This is the kind of thing that affects alumni as well as on-floor house members. I would gladly donate to have a backup/stable system. I'm sure more alumni feel the same way.

There used to be planb, and then it was taken down (iirc because it was configured to take anything and do no user checks).

Nobody ever took up the effort of understanding how to make a secondary mail server and actually doing it since.
