I LOVE DEF LEPPARD (and Bryan Adams... but not as much!!!)
I HAD THE BEST TIME EVER AT THIS CONCERT!!!!!!!
The concert today was AWESOME!! I loved (almost) every minute of it. My dad and I left at 3pm so that we could get to Oldsmobile Park (Home of the Lugnuts, in Lansing, for those who don’t know) by 5pm, and then wait in line for half an hour. Well, the directions I got from Map Quest were really bad; they were directing us to go down 696 during RUSH HOUR and CONSTRUCTION. My dad said he didn’t want to do that, and he wanted to take a shortcut. I was very against his “shortcut” idea since last time we followed his “shortcut”, we went way out of our way. I wasn’t driving so I had no choice. We ended up driving to Memphis and taking some other expressway route. It was supposed to take us about 2hrs 15min to drive from our house to the park that way, but it only took 1hr 45min due to no traffic and my dad’s speeding, lol. We listened to Def Leppard the way there, and my dad had it CRANKED LOUD because he likes them (He lied to me before; said he didn’t know who they were. And he said he didn’t like Bryan Adams either. But he does. He told me later today, rofl. And he enjoyed the concert almost as much as I did)
When we got to the park, there were HUGE HUGE HUGE (yes, three “huge”s….) lines of people waiting outside. I was kind of angry because I wanted to get there early so we would get up front (I can hardly settle for anything less since the VR concert), but it obviously wasn’t going to happen. We had to walk around half the perimeter of the park just to get at the end of the line; it was nuts. For some reason, I wasn’t expecting that many people to show up… but anyway… Around 5:30 they started to let us in. It didn’t take too long to get in. Once we got through the gates, I realized that my chances of getting a shirt were completely gone (makes me sad that I didn’t get one). As soon as we stepped in, we were immediately forced to turn left if we wanted to sit in the bleachers, or right for field standing. I thought my dad was going to be a pansy and pick the bleachers, but he went for the field, which was awesome. Good thing he did because I had a whole bunch of fun because of it!
We got down near the stage. I was at the left of the stage; not in front of it exactly. I was in front of the large speakers. I was also like 4 people-rows back. Pretty good for showing up late! Yay for people that choose bleachers over standing! Lol. Finally, around 6:30, some band came out that plays that song on a Coke commercial (I think it’s Coke) that goes “You can’t always get what you want…” I don’t know their name. They were okay, but I was getting sick of them after one song; I wanted Def Leppard! A family that was in front of me (younger family) started talking to me and my dad. We got buddy-buddy with them and the father told me that Def Leppard was the closing act. I was so excited when he said that! On the internet, it said that Bryan was closing. I like him and all, but I would’ve much rather seen the Leps close… and now they were!
I slowly started pushing forward as Bryan Adams came to the stage. I know this is going to sound weird because he’s quite a bit older than me, but he was hot stuff. Didn’t look his age. I just stood and listened for the majority of his performance, but I sang along to “Heaven” and “Everything I Do…” I cheered for him, even though I was getting antsy and I wanted to see Def Leppard. Bryan put on a VERY good show; I liked him a lot. At one point of the show, he came to my side of the stage (by this point, I was up one ½ rows and I was directly in front of the far left part of the stage) and I could’ve SWORE he winked at me. But because there were so many people around me who were actually singing along, I’ll pretend that didn’t happen. I’ll just say he winked in my general direction, lol. Also during his show, he had a person from the front of the crowd come and sing a duet with him. It just so happened that this person was from New Baltimore and lives in my sub! Isn’t that crazy? She was kind of drunk though… oh well! At least I know I’m not alone in my music tastes! Also, someone randomly threw a tennis ball onto the stage during a guitar solo, and Bryan watched it bounce across the stage, and then it hit the bass drum. Everyone up near the front was laughing… good times!
Bryan finally left stage (It seemed like forever!) and we waited quite a while (or so it seemed!) for Def Leppard to come out. I got even closer to the stage this time; the father let me in front of him to see, and then his wife let me in front of her, then her daughter let me in front of her because I was so short and tiny. I was one row from the stage, and I had the middle of the left side of the stage! Woot!
Def Leppard was AWESOME! The girl who let me in front of her was freaking out; she kept crying “JOEEEEEEEEE! JOEEEEEEEE! JOEEEEEEEEEEE! JOE!!! JOEEEEEEEEEE!” over and OVER and was crying. I got in front of her because she seemed unable to even look at Joe. Right up against the stage, baby!!
Joe looked great! So did everyone else! Unfortunately, I don’t know their names… sorry. Joe occasionally came to the left side of the stage when he sang, which was AWESOME! He was RIGHT THERE! I loved it. Once I figure out which name belongs to which band member, I’ll let you know who winked in my general direction, who smiled in my gd, etc etc. It was AWESOME! I held eye contact with one of the members at one point, and I made a gesture with my arms, and he did it back to me and smiled! IT WAS SO COOL!
At one point, two bras went flying onto the stage and Joe said “Oh jee, the undergarments. I see bras flying. Soon we’ll be seeing knickers!” (sorry for randomness, I’m just trying to remember everything!)
I got to see a few guitar solos up close and personal when they came to my side of the stage. It rocked! I got to look right in their eyes… *sigh*
They played everyone song I wanted them to, and more. I sang my wee little heart out. I can taste blood in my mouth because of it. During “Rocket”, Joe came to my side of the stage and sang a verse and the chorus there. It’s just the neatest thing to sing while looking into his eyes that close. I also gave one of the members a thumbs-up during the hugely-massive solos they had in the middle of the song, and he did it back. All the things that happened in this concert are very special memories to me now, but this song in particular will never leave me. It was the first song I heard on my first Def Leppard CD (Hysteria)! And I remember loving it. "Photograph" was also special to me, and I got some more band interaction on that one. "Pour Some Sugar On Me" was lots of fun too... I'm not going to even bother naming all the songs, because I'm the only one who cares, lol.
Throughout the entire concert, I was moving. I never got tired. I’m not sore. And I didn’t sweat! WOOT! (Thanks Jessica! Lol) I loved the concert. I wish I could do it again! I’m going to have a very hard time going from front row to back-and-center for Bon Jovi
Once again, I’m going to say this: The band looked AMAZING! They put on an EXCELLENT show! There wasn’t any moshing either, which made the show that much better. Oh, and if you haven’t done it before, try to get close to the stage next time you see a concert. It is just one of the most wonderful feelings in the world to be that close to someone you admire… to be able to see them looking back at you, to be able to sing right to them…
Oh yeah, and I almost caught a guitar pick… but I was one person too far from the center, lol.
-----------------------

There's probably more that I forgot temporarily, but I'll remember soon enough!

On top of having a really EXCELLENT ROCKIN' DAY!!!, I also got two bits (well, massive chunks...) of GREAT NEWS!!!!! The pathology says my mom's cancer is contained! But as a precaution, they're giving her a little bit of chemo (probably) after she has her gallstone and kidney stone surgery. ANNNNNNNNND: My uncle's fishlas (idk how to spell it) may be PERMANENTLY REMOVED!!! YAAAAAAAAY!
Oh, I'm not going to Summer Band tomorrow. Too excited about all of today's happiness!

[Unlocked entry for Bon Jovi message board buddies' viewing pleasure :P]
