knowing you and your reason for watching scary movies, i have to be a little amused. so I checked out your political-blog the other day and I have to say that I like your writing a lot more now. it's either more refined or i've lowered my standards... take that as you will.
I usually am very afraid of horror-flicks. However, the classic one's don't seem to get me nearly as much. The Exorcist, purportedly the scariest film ever made, was a masterpiece that I very much enjoyed and it completely failed to frighten me. I think it's the blood and gore in modern movies that gets me. Try this next time you've got a classic thriller: Pay attention to the mechanics of the movie, how the shots are framed, camera angles and transitions, motion of the camera and blocking etc. Admire the film's mechanics as a work of art, as it will help you to keep from identifying to closely with the characters and as such scaring the bejeesus out of yourself. Might work.
