nicely done. that response would be great, but you may be blowing their heads off with it. they are a large publication and they may not even care what you have to say unless it's a [no pun intended] straight yes or no. i suggest shooting it in their direction anyways.
I think it is important to talk about there not being boundaries on sexuality or it having to be this way and that, but also I think you may get some flack for being "fake gay" or "faux gay" - ie gay for fasion or gay because it's cool and edgy (I don't know how I feel about this issue but I hear A LOT of criticism of it in the queer scene)
ALSO you keep getting official looking mail from the state of michigan here. maybe you should change your address.
also people are going to read the last statement as "i am gay but don't want to call myself gay" there is so much derision in the "gay" community. Something I always thought about you was that you would get called gay and harassed and then be like "I'm not even gay" Like it matters if you are really gay or not the mere fact that you are hassed for your sexuality (or assumed sexuality) is shitty enough and saying "I'm not even gay" takes on a lot of straight privilege. Also I don't like The Advocate because it is very assimilationist - like "hey straight people we are just like you" ie support gay marriage, have a lot of white, middle class privilege, and not very many poc in there. There is so much more I could say about this but too much for livejournal. If you want to talk about it in person i am around.
leave it to a straight person to think they know everything about gay people because they have a couple gay friends or kissed a member of their same sex a few times
