Ororon is the youngest son of a line of seven fathered by Ozu, the king of hell. They all have different mothers, and as Ozu loved Ororon's mother Sheila the most, he made his youngest son - Ororon - the next in line for the throne. Ozu had killed Sheila's lover in order to take her as his own - Ororon looked so much like his father that Sheila was disgusted by the mere sight of him. Ororon loved his mother dearly despite her hatred of him and would visit her even after she had been driven mad by poison and attempted to kill him as though he were Ozu himself. Once word got out that he was to ascend to the throne, there were assassination attempts nearly every day - and hardly a day passed that a royal taster didn't die. Ororon's father died when he was very young, placing him as the king of hell while still a teen. The murderous attempts continued - from palace worker, commoner, and family alike (his brothers' jealousy could hardly be contained) - and so things went for more than one hundred years. Ororon had no intention of actually ruling hell; occupying the throne as little more than a puppet. When his adviser and good friend Matthew attempted to kill him to save his fiancé, it was the last straw. He killed Matthew and fled hell, wounded. He never blamed Matthew, though - he never really betrayed him.
That was when Chiaki found him, wounded and bleeding on a rainy Monday night. He tried to push her away but she persisted in helping him - and it was then he noticed she was not entirely human - her proximity and touch made the pain fade away. Intrigued, he allowed her to help and ended up living in her home. His suspicions were right as she turned out to be a half angel - half archangel, at that. He offers her one wish - and she asks him to stay with her forever. He agrees readily, already growing attached to her purity. On a short trip to retrieve his maid, Lucy (Chiaki's cooking leaves much to be desired), several demons find Chiaki and want to devour her. Ororon shows up just in time and kills all but the youngest (merely a child cat-demon), and is convinced by Chiaki to resurrect his elder brother. However, he is unable (and unwilling) to help the other two. And so their family grew, and Ororon tried to trust more.
Ororon's brother, Othello showed up not long after - surprising Ororon, as he expects the elder to wish to kill him on principle alone. However, Othello simply settles in their family unit. Ororon still hates him, even though Othello doesn't feel the same. After a night out alone and after he was attacked by Bogies (there is now a 2 million baron bounty on his head), Chiaki sees him covered in blood. She confronts him and he goes temporarily mad - attempting to undress her and still further until she hits him with a rock and he regains his senses. She flees and he follows, already regretting his actions. When she finds the mass slaughtered Bogies, she confronts him again - challenging him to never kill again. He tries to reason with her; as he hardly goes around killing for fun - he kills those that attempt to kill him, plain and simple. He shows the dead and dying little respect, walking all over their bodies. She won't budge, calling him a murderer - though she regrets it as soon as she says it.
Chiaki is sick however and Ororon takes her home and watches over her. When she begins to awake he flees, reasoning that she won't wish to see him. However, while he's out he is attacked by bounty hunters after his head - and while he fights them, it is clear he has no intent of killing them despite his holding back causing him to lose terribly - to the point at which he is nearly disemboweled. It's only when Chiaki and the others are in danger, having followed him, that he snaps and attacks further - killing several on his own (all while holding in his intestines) and summoning rock creatures to 'kill everyone.' He realizes his mistake belatedly and tries to find them to save them, but is accosted by ghouls (and consequentially the ghosts of his past, as they take the forms of his mother and Matthew both) along the way. But it's Chiaki and the others that find him first - and Ororon, unable to control himself and weak from his wounds, attempts to verbally push Chiaki away. When the bounty hunters return to kill them, he shows her how they're all in danger because he didn't kill them, because he was trying to become what she wanted him to be. However, by now he's snapped utterly and has her watch as he lets them attack him - nearly dying in the process - and then kills them all to save her and their family. However, this causes a break in Chiaki and with the release of her powers, she levels the entire city with a scream.
They have to flee, to get away - Ororon using his waning strength to hide them, while Chiaki is unresponsive and almost comatose, unable to face her guilt in killing so many people. Once they're found in their first hiding place by some of hell's ministers and military, Ororon has to move them - using more of his blood and consequentially draining more of his strength to move them all in secret. They end up in a park and witness the Piti-Pat tribe (a forest dwelling family tribe that can only subsist on the flesh of angels) capturing a meal. When one of the younger tribesmen attempts to steal Chiaki from Ororon, he kills him without a second thought. This sets the rest of the tribe against him for revenge; but they flee before anything else happens. Ororon collapses from exhaustion soon after and they hide in an abandoned apartment building. While they hide however, the tribe returns to take revenge on the demon king - and despite his weakness, despite being so near death, he again dons his gloves and takes on the enemy to protect those he loves.
While fighting the tribesmen, he attempts to reason with Chiaki - to the point of conversing with her and kissing her while still killing with one hand. She persists, but so does he - the argument continuing until finally Ororon 'wins' against the murderous tribe and Chiaki begins to cry - the tribe however is annoyed he is not paying them attention and calls him out, so he taunts them - until the leader of the tribe summons Ganimaaru, the most powerful of the holy spirits. Ororon uses one of his most powerful spells against the creature - though the spell knows no boundaries and puts everyone else in danger as well.
The real Garo Ganon Ganimaaru appears soon after - throwing Ororon for a loop. While his brother and troops attempt to regroup and help them (and keep Ororon alive), Ororon's other brother, Oscar, appears for the first time. He informs them that their brother Orga is going to attack and attempt to take over hell - spurred on by Oscar himself. This last betrayal is too much; Oscar takes it upon himself to kill Ororon, but hell's army detains him so that Ororon and Chiaki can get away - they regroup with Garo and Othello, and Ororon breaks down completely. Chiaki confronts him - and the demon king reveals the reason for his distress being that he can't stand to be the reason that Chiaki cries. She threatens to leave him, but he convinces her to stay until it's safe. When Ororon is attacked by a giant demon - he laments only that he is unable to protect Chiaki.
Despite being even closer to death than before, when Chiaki runs into harm's way to protect him he manages to stand - killing the demon that previously crushed him. After Oscar attacks him again, he can barely find the strength to grip his brother's ankle and tell him to stop hurting Chiaki because 'she's my girl, don't touch her' - however, at this point he admits that death is forthcoming and apologizes to Chiaki for breaking his promise to stay with her forever. All he can do is lay on the ground - prone and with his head in Chiaki's lap - continually apologizing for being so weak as to fail her. However, as Oscar attacks again he regains a modicum of composure - managing to spit attitude in the elder demon's face even as he's dying.
He tries to get Chiaki to close her eyes - to stop watching his descent - but she refuses, and while Ororon is fading fast, Oscar forces her to watch even more closely. With the last of his strength - the last of his life - he creates a magic circle to summon a powerful demon and both brothers die in the same moment.
The King of Hell dies, blind and weak, but still protecting the girl that he loves.
Note: 'Baron' is the underworld currency.
✗ what children love is singing
Ororon seems entirely outwardly unapologetic for his actions throughout the entire series until the very end - but in truth, he's very introspective and tends to berate himself for each action in turn, though too much thought is often cause for him snapping and doing something horrific. Though he trusts almost no one, he is protective of those he cares for and loves - Chiaki in particular, and those she cares for in consequence. He is ruthless in battle and will kill almost anyone in order to stay alive. He has a bad attitude and tends to say things he doesn't mean in order to push people away - though by the end of the series he seems to have gotten better with it - the very end, immediately pre-death.
✗ we'll know that their tied hearts sit broke
Ororon is one of the stronger demons in hell - he has the ability to wield various magic, though his trademark and favorite is obsidian flame of varying strengths. He can kill lesser demons and monsters with little more than a flick of the wrist, and has minimal resurrection capabilities - only things he has killed himself, that have not been dead long and are still mostly intact. He can move through solid objects as well (at one point in canon he slides underground and pops up beneath an angel that was bothering Chiaki in order to drag him underground and kill him). He has the ability to fly, hover, what have you - and also to hide his presence, to travel instantaneously, create powerful barriers, create shadow versions of himself to attack for him, and summon various spirits to do the same - however, these things all require his blood for the magic circle, and thus weaken him accordingly.
