I really enjoyed both Davis & White and Virtue & Moir! Personally, I liked Davis & White more, but Virtue & Moir's free skate was rather amazing with the lifts and softer lyrical Mahler's 5th. Also, it was funny to see Art become so adamant about how he wished that Davis & White would have won. Well, mainly because he likes the fact that they're college students in addition to athletes and that Charlie White seems like a nice guy. White: "We hang out and don't go out to the bar on Friday..." Davis: "Or EVER." Art blames me for getting him hooked on figure skating.=D
Thoughts on the compulsory program: Gee, when did the male ice dancers become so SLEAZY? Vote was definitely for Davis&White and Virtue&Moir because they didn't feel greasy. Virtue & Moir were also incredibly engaging for a mandatory program too.
Thoughts on the original dance: The Indian Bollywood-esque dance by Davis&White was incredible. It was well choreographed, had authentic aspects in, and all around fun. Definitely going to remember their skate! Initially I was concerned that "country dance" mean "country western music" and I was going to have to watch hours of Dixie Chicks and Garth Brooks...I kinda hate country music. Makes me want to beat my head against a wall. So happy to see that people were more creative. Speaking of creative, Russian dancers: what were you thinking? o_0 Program was kind of uncomfortable to watch.
Ice dancing free skate: Phantom of the Opera program was awesome! And Mahler's 5th was beautiful. It was a toss up for me who I favored to win, which I guess meant the Virtue&White since they had higher scores to begin with. Still, Davis&White's programs were my favorite from the competition and am looking to the Golden Gala Exhibition on Saturday! The French pair was enjoyable to watch and sad to know that they are retired after their free program.
Wow, Phantom's been pretty popular this year as performance music. And echoing a friend: yay for Patrick Chan skating to Masquerade!
Also, had no idea that Evan Lysacek and Nastia Liukin were dating. ...my info is old and I thought he and Tanith Belbin were a couple. Anyway, that made me smile because they are two Olympic athletes that I really like and they seem like nice people. Couldn't stop watching Nastia Liukin when she was competing, she is an incredibly graceful gymnast. Cute!
Onward to the ladies short program! Rooting for Yu-Na Kim and Mirai Nagasu ^___^
