That's harsh. You already know it's her and not you, but still.

Oh Jeff,

On the one hand, I'm terribly sorry. I know they're getting on in years and you never know when you'll see them again. They don't exactly live down the street. It's clearly her with the problem. Your only alternative would have been to just show up and expect them to be home, but I'd understand why you couldn't or wouldn't do that.

OTOH, it really is very, very funny. From an outside perspective it's like some sadistic sketch comedy. If you'd like, I can offer you probationary membership in my and Fang's Club for Children of Narcissistic Mothers. :)

Oh believe me, we totally see the funny side.

While Jeff is having this conversation with his mother on Columbus High Street, I have my fist crammed into my mouth so she can't hear me laughing. Especially the bit about how I'm going to leave him.

Occasionally my mother will bust that one out at well, when she's feeling particularly mean. It's ironic, as I turn up the saccharine (toward Duncan) to 11 when she's around, to the point where even he thinks it's creepy. It's just to drive her crazy, though! :)

Ugh. I'm glad you can at least see the funny side to that, but ye gods. It's really exasperating when parents behave with such immaturity. /:
