WARNING: Being that "Unwound Future" is relatively new, be warned that this survey will contain SPOILERS for this character, as well as that game. I can't very well censor every single answer, so I'm just going to warn everyone up front: if you haven't played the game and mean to, do NOT read this survey. Thank you.
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Clive stands at a fairly ordinary height and is quite thin. Nothing to it, really.
2. How old is he?
Twenty-three years of age!
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Neither when pretending to be Luke nor when he has revealed himself does Clive ever slouch; he was obviously well-bred as a child.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
As far as the game shows, he's pretty fit--after all, he does a somersault over to the professor in the middle of a casino in which mafia goons are firing off machine gun. That's pretty damn fit. When it gets right down to it, Clive has no physical disabilities. Mental is another story.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
He's fluid and laidback in his movements, but not to the point of laziness. His steps are measured and graceful, like a gentleman's would be.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
I won't lie to you. Chances are, Clive is pretty damn attractive--and I'm trying to be as unbiased as possible. He's a liar and a man of persuasion, and people of this sort always have to have some degree of attractiveness drawing others to him. As far as how he sees himself--well, in short, he doesn't really think about that. He grooms himself as he should, but he never really rate himself on attractiveness.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Smooth, youthful complexion that's probably pretty fair. The more recent years of his life have been spent underground, after all, though his youthful days were out and about. Still, London's a pretty dark place to begin with.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Light brown hair that seems to stick up in different places--not messy, per say, but scruffy, for a lack of a better term.
9. What color are his eyes?
...Black.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
The way he dresses is pretty noteworthy in that he dresses exactly like Luke Triton, trying to masquerade as him. Really, though, Clive in and of himself is pretty indistinct. Just an ordinary young man, as far as appearances go.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
His outfits definitely aren't varied. He wears the same blue blazer, blue tie, white button-down, brown shorts, white knee socks, and dress shoes every single day. He also dons a blue newsboy cap that resembles a certain little apprentice's. Something to note is that Clive's outfit, though similar to Luke's, is also about two shades darker. I find this interesting for characterisation reasons.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
Certainly. They're not really his, though I can speculate that he's been wearing them long enough, trying to get into "character", that he now wears them as though they're his clothes.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
Well, the only job he's ever held is as a newsboy, and not a lot is known about what he wore then, so I can only guess that he wore the same, stiff clothing as usual. Clive never struck me as the type to dress casually.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Boxers.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Not overtly deep, but it's clear that he's matured. Let's say baritone-tenor.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
Evenly and with an assertive quality; when he has something to say, it's important, and he knows it. However, everything he says has a relaxed and relaxing quality to it--unless something's gone horribly awry, you won't hear him shouting.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
He's a natural born brit! He has a smooth, English accent that American girls can only dream about.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
English, and he doesn't speak any other language fluently. However, it's probable that he knows a few others passably, such as French or Italian.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Nope.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
Clive is always thinking about what he says--after all, a master of deception must always be aware of his words. However, he never visibly pauses or stutters. His thoughts keep up with his words.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Eloquent! However, if you make him flustered or angry, this would probably change.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Verrrrrry smart. I mean, he even fooled the great Professor Layton, along with countless others. His schemes are outlandish, but could only be concocted by a genius--a deluded and insane genius, but a genius nonetheless. He's probably street smart as well, having to fend for himself and grow up quite quickly in a short time--still, though, he did live a "rich boy" life, so there's probably a limit to how street savvy he is.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
Both. He takes meticulous time to research and plan, but then he uses this research to go into the field, where he has to improvise his role as Future Luke and fix any mistakes that may be made. He works better with time on his side, but also knows how to think in a jam.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
It depends. Clive really isn't all there most of the time, his impulses being driven by an insane obsession over justice against those who wronged him. He'd like to think that his steps are logical and methodical--and to some extent, they are--but one must always be aware that Clive's true intentions are idealistic and completely mad.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
The rich boy kind! No, really. He was probably sent to the finest school in England.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
He knows a lot about the media, having worked in the newspaper, but his true expertise--rather, the thing he masters above all else--is probably deception and persuasion. You could call it "public relations". He knows how to charm a person and sway them to do exactly what he wants, and he can play any role he wishes to if he does a bit of research beforehand. He's good at being a tricky bastard, essentially.
I think he'd like to know more about people, though. He knows about them, certainly--that's how he tricks them so easily. However, he wants to know how people can love and forgive and feel like they're apart of a family, as these are things he lost in the explosion along with his parents.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Um. He speaks when he feels the need to and doesn't speak when he doesn't. I guess you could say that he's an introvert, but that's not to say that he's shy.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Even-tempered with occasional mood swings. If something goes wrong, he can go from a neutral face to screaming. He can start laughing psychotically at a mere provocation. It really depends, though his general temperament as future Luke is pleasant and informative. He laughs evenly at jokes and teases his younger self, but can also get down to business and explain a situation. He can also be an incredibly cocky bastard, both as Clive and as Luke.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
He always has two reactions to everything: an outward one and an inward one. He regards new people inwardly with calculation, considering who they are, what their place is in the situation, and if they're a liability/asset. Outwardly, he's pleasant and kind, happy to meet new people but not overly eager. Just like a gentleman should be.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
It depends on the situation. If things are going his way, he'll be happy to wait it out and react--on the other hand, if things spiral out of his tight control, he'll want to act.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight. He runs from nothing.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Yes! He has a sense of humour as Luke and as Clive; as Luke, he loves teasing little Luke and making intelligent jokes. As Clive, he has...an insane sense of humour. Dark.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Hahaha. Yes, he does. He's a sociopath, not diagnosed, but evident by his behaviour. He doesn't "deal" with it because he doesn't know that he's mad, like most people do.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
The death of his parents is a huge factor that changed Clive forever, but more important than that was his meeting with Layton.
14. What does he fear?
A loss of control, being alone.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
To level all of London and achieve justice against the corrupt.
But more importantly...to be saved from himself and have a family to call his own.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
He's Clive and he has an evil agenda! Everyone knows him as "Future Luke", and he'd like it to stay that way until his plans come to fruition.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
They're dead. And it haunts him every day.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
N/A.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
N/A.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
The rich woman who adopted him is the only living person he called family, and he really did live happily with her. However, I don't think that he really ever loved her like a mother.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
He has no friends, herp derp.
6. Does he have other close friends?
Nope.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
He easily gets along with people, but it's through deception...so really, none of his friends are "true" friends.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Family.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Single, possibly dated before, but none of those relationships meant much to him.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
No.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
N/A.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
He doesn't really think about it much, since he's never been truly attracted to someone. He only dated girls as a pretense.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
No.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
EVERYONE IN LONDON. And by that I mean the corrupt/Bill Hawks/Dimitri/Layton, to some extent.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the
Kinsey scale?
Ummm. Given that he's never been attracted to anyone before, I'm going to put 'ASEXUAL' here. The only person he ever had feelings for other than his parents was the professor, and those were undefinable feelings--not really included under "sexual orientation".
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
It isn't important.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Um. He's a virgin and he's really not interested in changing that, but I feel like he'd have some sort of control/dominance kink. Lmfao.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
I don't know his birthday, but I'm fairly sure that Clive is a Virgo. My headcanon birthday for him, therefore, is September 14.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Not religious. He has no opinion on the existence of a higher being, other than doubt.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
He will not harm an innocent, or who he feels is innocent. He has a strong distaste for needless violence against people who don't deserve it, though his ethics are VERY skewed by his own madness.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
He thinks that those who disagree with him are blind or foolish, especially in regards to corruption.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
PREJUDICE AGAINST SCIENTISTS AND POLITICIANS. No really. He hates them because they killed his parents.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Rich. So rich, man.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
He went from middle class to high class due to his adoption, and the status change only gave him more sway due to his financial situation.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
He lives alone in the house his adoptive mother left him. He doesn't spend too much time there, since he spends most of his time in "Future London".
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Constructing his plan. That's where all of his funds go, seriously.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
The only job he ever had was working for the newspaper, and rose in the ranks of journalism quite deftly. He "enjoyed" it, I guess, but it really was just a means for information gathering.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Plot plot plot. He likes to solve puzzles, just like everyone else in the series, but he really has no free time for much else.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Food is food to him, but he loves tea. He doesn't drink alcohol, though.
