Mithraism was a true rival to Christianity back in those days. It would be interesting to somehow figure out what civilization would be like if Mithraism had won.

Of course there is not mention of when Yeshua was born in that anthology of mythologies except in Luke where the shepherds were out watching their flocks by night which generally happened in lambing season in springtime. I think the Christians just wanted a reason to engulf the Saturnalia. The Germanic/Norse tribes celebrated Yule/Jul at this time of year and the names were stolen and given to Christmas. I've also read that the birth of Mithra was similar to the birth of Jesus which sort of implies to me that the creators of Christianity plagiarized Mithraism like those who invented the story of Moses's childhood which is nearly identical to that of Sargon the great. Plagiarism was not a crime until around the 16th century.
