Ever look back at LJ entries you made years ago, and suddenly find yourself reminded of things you'd all but totally forgotten had ever happened? i like the name garance. from where does it hail?

She's French on one side, and Garance isn't traditionally a French name, but it is a word referring to a shade of red and is the name of the main character in Les Enfants du Paradis. I guess her parents were fans of the film...! Apparently it also comes from a dye produced from the crushed roots of rubia (or madder), aka garanceux

last.fm, actually.

Started talking a lot (mostly on the phone & texts), eventually decided we wanted to meet-knowing we both planned to move to Portland certainly made this seem more realistic-and then we did. I guess we consider our relationship to have "officially" begun on September 1, when we first met face to face, if only for the sake of anniversaries and such. Just something more concrete than, "Well, we were friends on the internet for a while first..." It was a little scary, but we were both more than optimistic about the outcome and our hopes have certainly been justified.

I'm extremely happy for you, though I agree with the above comment. I can't think of a single reason you should not have hope for yourself, love, and your ambitions, unless one of your ambitions is crack cocaine. I've heard that's not the best way to go. I'm pleased to the see the recentness of your entries. LJ may not be dead after all.
