Character

Name: Mewtwo
Fandom: Pokemon Special
Gender: Male
Age: 5 years
Time Period: Disappearance at end of FRLG arc
Wing Color: Purple
History: History at Bulbapedia

Personality: Mewtwo was designed and created for destruction; the living weapon began his life with a violent rampage, spurred on by a limitless wrath. In the five years since, his rage has subsided, and the space left behind has yet to be filled entirely by a new purpose. He is aware of his aimlessness. He knows that there are many questions that he does not know the answer to. He is, for the most part, comfortable with this - because he knows that he is a Pokemon, and he knows that his fate is his own. This is all he needs to be content.

Mewtwo's ability to transmit his thoughts through telepathic "speech" can make him seem more human than he is. He is cool to the point of being apathetic, displaying a lack of interest in matters that don't immediately concern him. His choices are primarily impulse-driven - acting on his own feelings and wishes before reason - but his execution of those choices is carried out with a mechanical strategy, or at very most a lukewarm anger. Socially, Mewtwo is very introverted and can come off as aloof. It may be that he has no stake in the conversation and feels no need to intrude. It may be that he is listening intently and simply has nothing to say yet. Who knows?

The subject of Mewtwo's telepathy brings up another important point - his dignity. Mewtwo is aware of his own power, and knows that it is practically unmatched. Regardless, he demands of his opponents a one-on-one, hand-to-hand fight, as is honorable between Pokemon. His telepathic ability is a rare and recent ability, and to date there have been only five humans whom he has communicated with. Two of those were those he accepted as his trainers; one he considers a friend; one was out of necessity; and one was his mortal enemy. The dynamic between Pokemon and trainer is a complex one, and one that Mewtwo deeply values. He has had three trainers during his lifetime; his creator Blaine, with whom he shares a genetic bond, and League Champion Red, whose skill as a trainer is just as unmatched as Mewtwo's power as a Pokemon. There are a number of ways to earn Mewtwo's respect - fortitude of will, physical strength, kindness - but it takes a really exceptional person to be accepted as a trainer and earn his unflinching trust. Though his distant attitude never really fades, a "friendship"forged with Mewtwo is strong and lasting. On the flip side, Mewtwo can hold grudges like nobody, and his Pokemon instincts don't let him forgive those who have wronged him in the past.

Strengths:

Physical: Mewtwo is known to be the most powerful Psychic Pokemon on earth, if not the strongest Pokemon altogether. His power is entirely psychokinetic, giving him the ability to move objects without lifting a finger; in canon, he uses the psychokinesis for two attack styles. In the first, he manipulates fluids to repel attacks and create massive, constant forces like cyclones which act as a shield. In the second, he compresses psychic force into a weapon shaped like a large spoon, which is used like either a staff or sword (despite not seeming sharp...?). In Luceti, he would retain his two attacks at the power level of a moderately powerful Psychic such as Alakazam. However the case may be, he will still only use his powers if properly challenged to a battle, if a friend needs assistance, or against a particularly heinous villain-type.

Mental/Emotional: Mewtwo is stoic and resilient - it's difficult, if not impossible, to disrupt him emotionally or mentally, so distraction tactics are wasted against him. He's also critical of people who do allow themselves to be distracted, as shown when he inwardly scolded Blue and Green for lowering their guard when confronted with illusions of their captured families.

He is a clever and quick-witted fighter, shown to be very resourceful even without a trainer. He knows the extent of his powers and invents creative ways to stretch their limits - turning the psychic spoon into a fork to stab things, using water rather than wind for his cyclone, or turning the cyclone into a passage through an Zerg Rush of Unown rather than the typical ant-lion trap.

Weaknesses:

Physical: Mewtwo's body is practically made of glass. He relies on psychokinetic power to make himself untouchable - but with a thin frame and little muscle, any slice or blow that connects is a devastating hit. His skin is fragile, his bones are easily broken, and that nerve cord thing on the back of his head would likely hurt like a sunuvagrowlithe if you took a whack at it.

Mental/Emotional: With the stoicism comes what can seem like callousness - your human concepts of tact and sympathy are rather ridiculous, and Mewtwo will express what he thinks of a subject without sugarcoating. And if he seems like he doesn't sympathize...well, he doesn't. Don't pretend to understand his mind and he won't pretend to understand yours.

Along with this comes a certain selfishness in judgment. Someone who has caused Mewtwo harm in the past will find themselves blacklisted regardless of whether they are a truly reprehensible person, a villain with a few redeeming qualities (such as Giovanni, who will be Mewtwo's avowed nemesis no matter how much he loves his son), or simply a good person who mistook him for a threat. Actions are always louder than motive or intention in Mewtwo's world, and though this may sometimes be a strength, it is more likely to be a weakness in a predominantly human population.

Like many Pokemon, Mewtwo is prone to rampaging when he is enraged. It's much harder to make him angry than it used to be, but if the occasion ever arises, know that the ant-lion cyclone makes no distinction between friend and foe...

First Person:

1. What's your opinion on species unlike your own? Do you treat them the same, or differently? Are they less important than your own kind or on equal standing?

[....but what is this question]

I am the only Mewtwo. How can I value something that doesn't exist?

I cannot dismiss everything in the world for as foolish a reason as "difference". There are only choices, and the actions that follow, which can be judged. Red and Giovanni both have human blood, after all.

2. Do you care about other people, or would you rather not deal with them?

My affairs are my own. I will choose a trainer when it benefits my own interests, and I will not interfere where I have no business.

3. If you had a choice between feeling emotions or feeling nothing, what would you choose?

I was born with the ability to feel emotion, and that is how I will remain.

4. Who or what has influenced most of your life decisions?

Having Blaine as a master taught me reason and restraint. His teachings will remain with me for all my life.

5. What's the most clear memory you have? It can be good or bad.

Fighting against Deoxys, at Red's side...it was a battle unlike any other.

Third Person: There had been light.

The first thought that came to his mind after it faded was a jolt of alarm as his eyes snapped open, and he immediately fell silent to listen intently for footsteps, voices, breathing - anything. Nothing came after a pause, and he glanced warily around what was revealing itself to be a forest as he rolled over onto his stomach.

The second thought: Pokeballs do not do that.

So the wariness didn't fade, even as Mewtwo rose unsteadily to his feet and gave the forest around him a harder look. Something was strange, something was off. There was an unexplainable emptiness - not of sound, not of sight, but something else...

He raised his hand and flicked his wrist lightly, and a small wave of air shook the branches of a smaller tree. Not hard enough - it should have snapped.

Surprise, astonishment, the beginnings of anger. Where was he? And what had that woman done to him? A hushed rattling noise rose from his throat, and his tail swished restlessly.

He needed to find his trainer - find Red, or Yellow, or any Pokedex holder. Find answers. Find the culprit. Find out whether Deoxys got away, whether Sird had been apprehended.

Mewtwo let out a breath and rose to stand on his toes, taking a step forward, feeling the reduction in his abilities in the unsteadiness of his body and the blankness where psychic power should have been.

Unacceptable.

He had taken no more than ten steps when he noticed something very out-of-place.

Appreciating for a moment the reading ability Blaine had impressed upon him, the Pokemon pulled it towards himself with a gesture, opened it, and began to read.

Only seconds later, a furious burst of wind raced suddenly up through the trees, making the branches shudder and more than one squirrel skitter away in panic.
