I guess I wrote this and never actually clicked the "post" button. I could just toss it, but I might as well have it here so I can link back to it. Basically, here's my essay on "I don't care what he does in his personal life" and (former) Representative Anthony Weiner

Your comments on my Chicago boss are especially intriguing to me in light of the fact that he was (to me) an Interesting Catholic. He and his family went to church every Sunday, the children did all the things Catholic children do, but he drank like a fish, swore freely, and (in hindsight) may have actually been a functioning alcoholic. I was too naive to know that at the time. I couldn't reconcile in my head someone who claimed the church was so important but lived the way he did. I was often confused by him, frankly. But your comment on him thinking/knowing that what he was doing was wrong is, I think, acutely astute, and yes, probably did have a huge affect on him.
In re: Maybe what people mean then when they say the don't care about Dude's personal life is that they don't care if he HAS ethics or morals, as long as what he does on the job is to spec. Something like: I don't care if he flashes his wares or cheats on his wife ( ... )

Having to wear a suit and tie to work and then laying about in your jockey shorts all weekend comes under the 'I don't care what he does in his personal life' banner. Seducing young girls over the Internet is a different story. The plain truth is, the man lacks integrity and is so lacking in character he doesn't even understand that he has disgraced himself. I expect better from our politicians. It's a bloody shame that they don't expect better from themselves.
