Food, farting, and farmbox

You've missed a few BWA HA HA moments in our house lately and I've been trying to remember to blog about things Unk said lately that made me go LOL. I had three "food conversations with Unk" I was going to share with you, but I can only remember 1. *sigh* The mind is the first thing to go ( Read more... )

Can you please explain the mix the filling and then let it drain part? Mine was totally dry (until, of course, all the sugars warmed up and made yummy syrup), and I would love your suggestions :)

ooh -- sounds exactly why I salt the cucumber when making tzatziki! I always let them sweat a bit.

Ok -- I'll definitely try it next time. Thansk!

PIE!

Also, your sister is right...it's a squash. Those are quite tasty too.

Am I the only on who sees "Cruciferous vegetables" and wonders why we are putting veggies on the cross? Is it because they want to save us from the sin of eating cheetos?

Oh! Thanks for the reminder about the pie shield thingie. I have always looked at those and sort of poo-pooed them, but it appears I'm making more pies now (I'm doing a chicken pot pie tomorrow and a cherry pie -- pie baking cherries from the farmbox -- for Unk's birthday on Saturday and who knows what else), so I might as well get one. Thanks for the suggestion!

And LOL at the Cruciatus curse. Painful.

Gee, that's a mean thing to say.

...it's a squash

Do you have or know a way to fix it? I'm thinking about adding it to a chicken pot pie tomorrow -- it's so little, I don't know what else to do with it on its own!

No :)

Surely. (Shirley)

Nice pie. (I have no problem with a sloppy pie, as long as it tastes good!)

And, yes, that's a squash. (What did you think it was? A flying saucer from a very small planet?) I believe it's called a patty pan squash. And they're quite yummy. One of the things I've loved about CSA membership is that it's expanded my horizons on veggies, esp. greens!

It tasted faboo! Also? I learned the best thing about making a pie for only two people (as opposed to a holiday crowd) is that you can have a piece every day for several days in a row. With coffee.

I was SURE it was a flying saucer from a very small planet! I'll ask you the same question I asked alrescate above - do you have a favorite way to prepare it? I was thinking I'd add it to a chicken pot pie tomorrow (my sis says that's her favorite way to use up the veggie drawer when it's out of control), but I don't even know if I peel it or .... what! (yes, I can google it too, but I love talking food with my friends)

I feel the same way about the CSA! My sis said she uses greens in anything with a sauce, so I added some to a chicken curry the other night. It was totally fabulous, except for one problem. I have no idea what kind of green it was! I really thought it was mustard greens, but in talking to my sis later, I think they were collards. Weird :)

No need to peel, just cut away any tough area around the stem. You can treat them pretty much the way you would a zucchini or yellow crookneck squash. The flavor is similar, but I find it a bit sweeter, and the texture a little less...what's the word I want? Spongy, maybe ( ... )

e_f pretty much said what I was going to about the squash. The only thing I would add is if you cut it up and cook them on the stove I would add some yellow squash and zucchini. I love those together! (I don't fry them but sautee them in butter.)

P.S. I have no idea how to spell sautee or make the little thing about the "e."

I'm glad you like them!

I did actually use it in a chicken pot pie, so you should probably side with her :) I think it was alrescate above who said it was a patty pan squash, which is kind of a cute name :)
