I think a friend-o of mine is seriously going to commit suicide. I can not let this happen... but I don't know what to do. She lives too far away where, if she took drastic action, I wouldn't get there in time ( Read more... )

Talking to her isn't doing much good.
How would I find out a suicide hotline in her area? Online? What do I even say to them?

Would 911 work nationally if I gave them her address?

has she told you that she is going to?
then you can contact the police, but I suspect she hasn't told you because people who are serious don't often tell someone. Has she all of a sudden gotten calm and serene? started tying up loose ends and sounds like she is wrapping up loose ends?

other than that. you can let them know you care and you want to help them through whatever seems so hard right now.

Call 1-800-SUICIDE. They will know more than we do

That's just it- she hasn't admitted it to me yet. She just has all the massive signs, especially in things she says (between the lines). I don't know what loose ends she's taken care of, but she acts like she doesn't care anymore. I just have this really bad feeling- like it's coming.

that does sound like a bad sign. can you call her? ask her outright..
better yet, call that number and ask their advice

She wouldn't admit that to me. I'll phone the hotline first. I don't want to say or do the wrong thing.

First, if she's posted an actual intention, contact LJ Abuse and let them know. If they have contact info for her they can pass it along to the police.

Second, give me any info you have about her and I'll see what I can dig up re: location/name/other contact info. (Having been in fake_lj_deaths for years, I've gotten fairly good at tracking people down.)

She's not on LJ (to my knowledge). I know all her personal info. I have to admit, I don't like seeing that fake_lj_deaths right now.

I do know where she lives exactly. I don't trust phoning the police here and expect them to contact the police near her. The police are inept. What would the police do anyway? What if they go to her house, ask her if she's suicidal and she tells them "no". There's really not alot they could do then, right?

What would be proof if there isn't something obvious or hidden? I don't know if there's obvious proof at her house or not.

Try to get her to open up more.

Just getting her to talk about how she feels & why she feels the way she does will help. Hopefully it'll make her step back & reconsider. Also, always remind her that you're there for her to confide in.

Already done. I don't think it helped much.

Aw damn. I'm sorry :[

Suicide hotline seems the best then. If they can't get to her personally, at least you can ask them how you can help her.
