There are things that I like about the show, but the premise is ridiculous in even more ways than that. We're supposed to believe, in spite of the fact that they were scholars whose means of collecting the stories is well known, that Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm were monster hunters telling their stories from life. And don't get me started on the way the show mangles the German language.
The better episodes show that the writers are trying to work around the ridiculous backstory which was handed to them and come up with a coherent universe.
Actually, the brothers Grimm as monster hunters I'd just shrug off as an alternate history world building. Bad world building, but I can SOD on that. As someone who:
1) Grew up in a society were it is obvious to anyone who bothers to look that the people "on point" are just the most visible part of the glacier(or as Eric Flint put it in the Belisarius series:"Amateurs study tactics, professionals study logistics").
2) just read Seanan McGuire's Cryprid series, were she does this basically Right, even if her Prices are a bit too competent to be real(as a family).
3) loves competent characters, and good portrayals of such.
The fact that the show showcases protagonist's and his whole family's incompetence on the first episode was a major turn-off, story-wise.
