Montador then Brunette? StanBow, I heartily approve! Well-played so far, sir. Especially if you send the other spare parts you signed today down to Rockford ( Read more... )

I'm okay with Varly to the Avs, but Max Talbot just went to the Flyers. WTF, now I'm a Flyers fan??? No. Just, no...

Yup, Talbot to the Flyers. Sad day for everyone who enjoyed not seeing him in orange.

We've done well so far. :D

Gotta admit, Varlamov to the Avs amused me. But Max Talbot to the Flyers amused me more. Though I am upset that Fleury and Talbot's epic bromance has been split up...

Varly to the Avs, hee. Talbo to the Flyers, hmmm. Confession: I do not like seeing the Flyers acquire pieces, even if their management has been taking WTF pills this summer. I don't like seeing Talbot step into a locker room that has to be reeling right now.

I don't like seeing Talbot step into a locker room that has to be reeling right now. Oh god, I don't even want to think about what the Flyers' locker room is like right now. They've been turned inside out this summer-- I feel like their management have taken the whole transforming the team thing way too far. Their main issue was their goalie, not their forwards or defence (as long as Pronger is around) and I know their new players and other forwards are good, amazing in fact, but I genuinely think that team chemistry has a huge part to play in team performance, and losing central members like Carter and Richie will affect how well they play.

No kidding. The Flyers needed a goalie, and they selected the option of "acquire a goalie and blow up the team". One of those things was not necessary. It wasn't the part about acquiring a goalie.

Flyers sign Talbot, too. I don't know how I feel about that.

Talbo isn't the answer in Philly. He's a step in the right direction, but he doesn't have a 40 goal scorer buried somewhere inside him, and he never will. You need 40 goals to replace Carter. Let's not even start on Richards.

So the Flyers have acquired a decent forward who will fight hard to earn his place on the team. They haven't acquired a replacement for either Carts or Richie. And for the Flyers, that's a problem. Every other team in the league, on the other hand, is still laughing at them.

Well, I meant quite aside from the professional impact on the team he could have. ;)

idk, Philly of all places... But with Rupper being a Ranger now and the first Pens vs. Flyers game being late in December, it'll at least be an entertaining 24/7 and Winter Classic. Even if we won't have a manic Russian wandering about in skimpy towels.

No idea what that whole shakeup was about in Philly, really. Sure, they needed a goaltender, but at the cost of their two best forwards? Hum. Only reason might be to heal the rift in that locker room, but if that was the right move I'm not sure. Time will tell?

Philly... I honestly think that management there went insane. Because you can have a rift in the locker room, yes. You can have issues. But at the end of the day, these guys are professionals and ought to conduct themselves as such. I mean, hell, I work in a law firm. We don't blow up the firm or sell the farm if one partner doesn't like another. They work through it and conduct themselves as the professionals they are being paid extremely well to be. So yeah, I'm sort of side-eyeing that whole locker room issue thing. You can have locker room issues out the wazoo, but it ought to take more than that to make you ship out 80 goals and 120 points of scoring in one fell swoop, especially in a UFA class where there's no chance of replacing those kind of point totals. Brad Richards (whom everyone expects to cost $8M) is literally the only UFA that could come close to Carter's or Richards's point totals. And there's only one of him. And he costs $8M. And there's only one of him. And... yeah ( ... )

I long ago gave up trying to understand the Flyers. I just kind of nod and smile, while attempting to wrap my head around the idea that now I'm wishing Max Talbot well, wth???

I think everyone (Pittsburgh fans, Philly fans, hockey fans in general) are shaking their heads and wondering about that Talbot move. Seriously, Max. WTH?

EDITx5: WE SIGNED CARCILLO? REALLY? THE MOTHERFUCKING BLACKHAWKS SIGNED DANIEL FUCKING CARCILLO? I don't know whether to laugh or cry. BRB, deciding still.

Well, I just laughed so hard that I drew the attention of the neighbors across the street.

ETA: Honestly, though, he has potential. He misplaces or misdirects it sometimes, but it's there.

Okay. Let's be optimistic realistic: it's Dan Carcillo. He is a legitimate NHL forward, who will eat up bottom-6 minutes and can legitimately be deployed to deter stupid stuff against our top players. Deploying my metric for judging defensemen: he is better than John Scott. He will be an improvement over Scott. Miles better. Ergo, he represents an improvement to the team. Even if it's a reprehensible improvement to the team, it's still an improvement. Deep breath. Shit could be worse.

At least that's what I'm telling myself for now.

Think of the penalties though :3 At least with Scott there's a brain in there trying to make the smart decision with limited skills. With Carcillo it's like a rampaging toddler and a lego city. And people are calling Scotty dumb a lot today, which has me on edge anyway. Guy's super smart! Just not so much at hockey ^^;

Things could definitely be worse. I'm just kind of side-eying today's signings for the moment. Not Brunette though, so there's something!

Brunette was an excellent signing, Montador has numbers that rival really good defensemen's numbers for a fraction of the price. I'm pleased with those two signings.

Car-bomb. Hmmmm. The penalties are a minus, but Q is the kind of coach who is willing to bench a player if he keeps taking dumbshit penalties. I'm thinking that Car-bomb has a summer to revise his game, and now he's dealing with a coaching staff that won't put up with his moronic tendencies. I'll give him a chance to see what he does in camp and in the preseason before I judge him to be the thug that I really want to think he is. Q really values defensive responsibility, and he gives huge time to forwards who can provide said responsibility. If Carcillo can adjust, there's a chance he could be really something. We'll see.
