We are all DOOOOMED!!!

Just a quick question for all of my "End of The World is Nigh, Global Warming Will DOOM us All" friends.

If the severe hurricane season of 2 years ago was supposedly evidence for accelerated, human-caused global warming, was this past years extremely mild season (less than half of the predicted storms materialized, and none made landfall) evidence ( Read more... )

Doomed, indeed. canzone_di_luna February 6 2007, 04:38:09 UTC
At least when the government bombards whole cities with microwave scans, I'll have my tin foil hat.

In my waterworld, Kevin Costner will be our first execution.

global warming is a theory based on an decoligical cycle. a long, consistant cycle. having nothing to do with humans. i read a book about this a few months ago, but right now i don't remember what it was called.

i think the whole OMGNOZ!!!GLOBALWARMINGOMGNONZZZ!!! thing is just another example of people being unable to accept that the world does not, in fact, revolve around them. or even their species.

Perhaps is was "Unstoppable Global Warming (Every 1500 years)". I haven't read it, but it was recommended to me.

But yeah, the really disturbing thing to me is the mob mentality of the GW crowd, and their difficulty (and sometimes outright refusal) to listen to, entertain, or least of all, give credence to any dissenting opinions.

I always thought science was supposed to welcome challenge...

All that the people who really want to know would have to do is look at the planet Mars notice that the polar ice caps on Mars are visibly smaller now than forty years ago any theory on Global Warming should explain both Earth and Mars. Unfortunately it is real hard to blame the Republicans for Mars, so Albert Gore keeps on beating his tired little drum and will probably get an Oscar for his trouble. I guess that is better than an elected office, probably pays better too.

pascal's obdurate wager pumblewockey February 7 2007, 05:27:59 UTC
when pascal wagered that it would be better to cast in on the side of angels, that all things considered time wasted with minor rituals was better than burning in the fiery pit of hell in the case that God existed, his logic had one hilarious flaw. And it was a knee slapper.

Which God? Allah? Yahweh? Pumbah? Isis? Ba'al? Hunab-Ku? Quetzalcoatl?

Poor Pascal. He chose wrong, and now he is Odin's toothpick.

If only Pascal had been wagering on behalf of global warming. As in, "the one globe." The big Gaia. Earth: The contender.

We've got one planet. If there is a ten percent chance the climatologists are one hundred percent correct, we buy insurance. We wager on the side of a little fixin', a little terraforming to counter a little terraforming.

we disrupt the economy. YEAHAWW!

Sheesh. Don't tell me you haven't watched "an inconveniant truth" yet. :)

It could be muuucch worse. An inconveniant truth could star Hillary CLinton.

shiver.

What pumblewockey said.

If there is any kind of chance that the majority of scientists are correct in their assertion that we are affecting the climate, then it would be better to take whatever measures we can to slow that than to wait until it's too late. Economic disruption on our terms, or nature's - but economic disruption will come!

There will always be dissenting opinions, no matter how late it gets. As it is with every topic. :)
