Have you read "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss? A simply amazing work of storytelling... it's been out for a while, and the next book is almost out.
Others of note:
"Melusine", "The Virtu", and "The Mirador" by Sarah Monette... another great fantasy series, with the next coming out soon "Pushing Ice" by Alastair Reynolds "Chasm City" by Alastair Reynolds - part of his "Revelation Space" universe, but stands alone as a story "The Graveyard Book" by Neil Gaiman (if you haven't gotten to it yet) "Ysabel" by Guy Gavriel Kay (one of my favorite authors- anything by him is wonderful) Almost anything by Tim Powers, but especially "The Drawing of the Dark", "The Anubis Gates", "On Stranger Tides", "Last Call" or "Declare" "Anathem" by Neal Stephenson "Pattern Recognition" and "Spook Country" by William Gibson "Vacuum Flowers", "Stations of the Tide", "The Iron Dragon's Daughter" and "The Dragons of Babel" by Michael Swanwick (also his short fiction)
Seconded. I just finished getting up to date with the Steven Erikson series. They're all epic tomes so will keep you in reading for a while.
I've also read the chinese classic "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" which is great military fantasy, and stands up well even by modern standards. Maybe more davidt3001's style. You might prefer "Dream of the Red Mansion" which is more romance & intrigue?
