Suicide as a blatant plot device? Urgh.

I was planning on saving this for tomorrow, but after actually reading it in its entirety, there was no way I was going to let it torture me as I slept.

"The blade fell to the ground, slicing into the side of her foot."

Just HOW heavy is that razor? It would need to be at least 2 pounds to cut you when you drop it. That's the only time she says "Ow," too.
What an incredibly stupid Sue, and way to kill yourself.

a depressed and suicidal Chihiro actually doesn't bother me that much-- when done right, handled correctly, with enough research and good description, you could have something that, while not at all in accordance to Miyazaki's vision, might be an interesting reinterpretation. or what if she actually died when she went to the Spirit world, and she can't come back, or what if-- *covers mouth*

i have to remind myself i stopped writing fanfiction a looong time ago...

this is just awful. it makes a mockery of suicide and depression, which i can't stand. there's agony in cutting yourself a little bit with a razor, if you'd never done it before you'd be making up swear words... at least in your head.

there's no internalization. no motivation. it's everything that makes a storys stilted and dumb. and now, i can't write somethings similar out of guilt.

The only problem of course is that people - and there's more than one bad Chihiro suicide fic, unfortunately - don't bother to research. You detailed what, if done well, could be interesting and perhaps thought-provoking to read.

Alas, that was not this fic.

"How much you want to bet Haku shows up and saves her from the depths of horrible depression?"

Is he going to save us, too? Because this just depresses me.

She picked up a razor-sharp blade her father had carelessly left on the sink and stared at it blankly.
If that is a razor blade, which I'm assuming it is, then that description is rather lame.

What Chihiro didn't notice was the sign on the razor blade that said, "To put your audience out of its misery."
