It seems to be endemic in offices, or at least in workplaces that don't self-select for intelligent, well-read workers.
I am ready to stab my office cow-orkers (that's not a typo) in the face at the moment for their racist views. And honestly, I think I can say in this case it's more about ignorance than malice - which sort of makes it worse, in a way.
'Casual racism' - I like that term. I will have to remember it.
You know, I think the thing that boggled me most about my cow-orkers' views was that my first impulse was to say, "WTF? Do you actually know any [insert ethnic/cultural group here] people??" - but I stopped before asking, because I already know the answer.
