Concepts of the most ideal form of intimacy also vary throughout the world and history. The romantic notion of that 'One Special Person' with whom we have a passionate intimate relationship is a product of our time and culture. But this model of intimacy is not universally accepted among all cultures. For instance, the Japanese seem to rely more on friendships to gain intimacy, whereas Americans seek it more in romantice relationships with a boyfriend, girlfriend, or spouse. In noting this, some researchers have suggested that Asians who tend to be less focused on personal feelings such as passion and are more concerned with the practical aspects of social attachments appear less vulnerable to the kind of disillusionment that leads to the crumbling of relationships ( ... )

i just found it very interesting about 'intamacy' and close relationships with those we choose to surround ourselves with.

I think what I like is that, the idea of being mentaly close with a handful of close friends who you understand, and who understand you, is more ideal than having one emotional, physical, and mental relationship with just one person.

its a comforting thought that i can be just as satisfied with 6 or seven of my closest friends and getting to know them and them me, than trying to fill the mental void with phsyical stimulation; all the while never really getting the stimulation that I need, deserve and want.
